Most would say that coaches have become more reclusive and are now really analyzing tape and being to critical. I would say the opposite, coaches are now valuing their time more and taking their time to look and watch tape on a player. They are now calling the coaches more and talking to coaches in the league to find out if that recruit is a genuine talent and being seen that way thru their peers. I now tell the recruits that are being recruited, cherish every moment in the recruiting process, do not take any conversation, offer or piece of mail for granted. Coaches are now reaching out and trying to be as transparent as possible to the new era of recruiting. So now the coaches can really focus on a recruit and really get to know them by having good conversations over zoom, talking with all of the family as well building a relationship with the potential recruit. If I was a recruit in todays recruiting game, I would do the following steps to make myself stand out to potential schools and coaches.
Step 1: I would build a student athlete website that housed the information needed for a coach to contact me and view my highlights, game tapes and mix tapes from events that I attended.
Step 2: I would build a social media presence that showcased my talents and let the coaches know who I am as a student athlete.
Step 3: I would attend all camps and showcases that are certified or considered top camps and clinics so that I could be recognized as a top kid in the area or state.
Step 4: I would make sure when we played with our high school teams we were showcased in major tournaments during the year and our team was viewed by many coaches and scouts.
Step 5: I would play with a prominent club team on the circuit that was able to travel and be seen by major colleges and scouts on the circuit by either Nike, Adidas or Under Armor.
Step 6: I would register for NCAA, NAIA or any other recruiting sanctioning company that allow student athletes to be cleared to play a sport at the next level.
Step 7: I would register for FAFSA, Scholarships and all types of aide that can be received by a student athlete.
