However they will be looking to play a bigger role so that their teams can compete for State Championship. Here are some of the players that will make an impact for their teams in Region 2-AAAAAA this upcoming season.
Akirria Mountain I 5’5 I PG I 2022 I Glynn Academy
Mountain is looking to make a strong come back this upcoming season after season ending knee surgery last season. Before her injury she was in the top 5 in scoring for Region 2-AAAAAA. She will be called upon to be the main ballhandler for the Lady Terrors. Mountain can shoot it consistently from behind the arc and has a nice pull up jumper in transition. She has the most varsity experience than anyone on Glynn Academy’s roster which will be needed for the Lady Terrors to make a deep run in the playoffs.
Taniyah Bowman Taniyah Bowman 5'2" | PG Bradwell Institute | 2023 State GA I 5’2 I PG I 2023 I Bradwell Institute
Bowman led the region in scoring last year and looks to build upon it this upcoming season. Bowman is a speedy point guard that knows how to create her own shot and get to the free throw line. High IQ guard that knows how to control the game and lead her team. Has the ability to take over a game. She will be looking to lead Bradwell back into the playoffs this upcoming season.
Alyssa Staten Alyssa Staten 6'4" | C Statesboro | 2024 State GA I 6’4 I C I 2024 I Statesboro
Staten brings a strong post presence to the Lady Blue Devils. Has great height and a soft touch around the rim. Uses her body to create space in the paint to get her shot off. Knows how to rebound in traffic which allows extra shots for her teammates. She played travel basketball which allowed her to play against some of the top players in the state. Looking for a great sophomore season from Staten who continues to get better every time she steps on the floor.
Shakardia Cowart I 5’5 I SG I 2022 I Brunswick
Cowart is a blue collar kid that works hard on both ends of the floor. She is the engine that gets her team going. Finds way to get her shot off and knows how to be in the right place at the right time. Crashes the boards hard. She had an awesome summer as she picked up an offer from East Georgia College. Looking forward to a breakout senior campaign for Cowart as she will play a huge role this upcoming season for the Lady Pirates.
Faith Norman I 5’5 I PG I 2023 I Effingham
Norman had a breakout summer season. I had the chance to watch her play at the Bryan County Shoot out and she showed why she will be one of the best guards in the region. Always communicating on the floor and getting her teammates involved. Knows how to attack the basket strong and finish at the rim. Provides that spark that is needed for her team to make some noise in the region this season.
Brionna Sutton I 5’5 I PG I 2023 I Richmond Hill
Sutton will be called upon to play a bigger role at the point guard and shooting guard position for the Lady Wildcats. She had a huge summer where she got better as the summer went along. Can shoot the 3 ball consistently and knows how to attack the basket hard. Lefty guard that leaves it all on the court. Definitely a hidden gem in South Georgia.
