What makes all these primary ball handlers unique is that they have all shown the ability to elevate the talent around them and be the nucleus for winning games. What is also remarkable about these floor generals is that they all play up on their respective grassroots teams, so they have the trust of their coaches and teammates to be the leader against better competition. Below are the top 4 guards from the class of ’25.
Maysen Hill Maysen Hill 5'11" | PG St. Andrews | 2025 State NewE – Lady Rivals/ St. Andrews – 5’11’’ – CG
’25 Rank: #2
When I watched Hill back in June, I thought that she could be the #1 player in the ’25 class one day. She has that “it” factor and commands your attention whenever the ball is in her hands. She has the size, length, and suffocating defense that make her one of the most special talents amongst her peers. A couple of weeks ago, I saw Hill play, and her three-point shot looks much improved, and she is hitting them more consistently. Hill’s offensive game is developing exponentially, and she has the potential to be a player that can take over a game on both sides of the ball.
Ava Black Ava Black 5'11" | CG Tabor Academy | 2025 State NewE – Bay State Jaguars/Tabor – 5’10’’ – CG
’25 Rank: #3
Many people watch Black play and see her size, strength, and scoring ability and think she is a 2 guard. I beg to differ and believe that she is most valuable at the 1 because of the way she sees the floor. Some of the windows Black sneaks the ball in are mind-boggling. The luxury of having Black on your roster is that she can be a reliable shooting guard and most likely will play a lot at that position come the winter season at Tabor; but, I can’t ignore her insane court vision. Black has a special passing gift, and when you add in the three-point shooting, mid-range package, and finishing ability, how can you argue there is a more complete offensive guard in ’25?
Christina Pham Christina Pham 5'7" | PG Noble & Greenough | 2025 State NewE – Shooting Touch/Noble & Greenough – 5’7″ – PG
’25 Rank: #4
Pham makes playing point guard look so easy. She kills her opponent, barely breaking a sweat. Pham is so crafty knifing into the paint and is uber deceptive when using her head and ball fakes, completely shaking the defender out of their shoes. What makes Pham the #1 player at this point is because no matter how much responsibility you put on her shoulders, she, more times than not, delivers. It doesn’t matter who her teammates are or what team she is going up against; when you put any obstacle in front of Pham, she will find a way to overcome it and put her team in a position to win.
Gianna Nichols Gianna Nichols 5'7" | PG Worcester Academy | 2025 State NewE – MA Huskies/Marianapolis – 5’6″ – PG
’25 Rank: #5
Nichols has had one of the more consistently dominant summers of any player regardless of class. Every time I have seen her play, she has been one of the best, if not the best player from the tournament or showcase. Not only has Nichols’ play increased her stock, but the leadership and facilitation she has shown have made her teammates’ stock rise too. If you don’t throw the kitchen sink at Nichols, she will happily score on you all game long. When teams try to trap or double her, Nichols finds the open teammate for a score. Nichols is also a ruthless competitor. She will take your head off to win a game or matchup, and she sets the tone for the Huskies on both sides of the ball.
