Best juniors in the Georgia Top 250 Expo? Here are our 2023 All-Expo teams.
First Team
[player_tooltip player_id="154582" first="Crystal" last="Henderson"] | 5'7 | PG | Kell
Crystal is extremely effective at impacting the game from the PG position. Keeping teammates involved, facilitating the offense, and scoring are all things that she does very well. Her outing at the Top 250 just emphasized these points. The crafty guard can hurt you in a variety of ways. She has deep range on her three-ball and has dribble moves to take you off the bounce. I have remained impressed with her court vision as well. Because she is usually able to get by her defender, the defense develops a habit of over helping which is when she is able to find open teammates all over the floor using great passing with either hand. She can heat up at any point in any game and put together 10+ point quarters.
LaNya Foster | 5'10 | SG | Lovejoy
This was my first time seeing LaNya in live-action and she left me really impressed. At one point in her game, she scored 12 straight points in what seemed to be a three-minute span. She got to the rim, hit the mid-range jumper, and knocked in two threes, and made it look effortless. Because of her size, she had no issue getting in the mix for rebounds and looked solid defensively as well. She plays very well off the ball, especially in transition. She has a good IQ and knew when to trail the play for pitch-back threes and when to get sprint ahead recognizing one-on-one opportunities. From what I saw she has an efficient game and knows the difference between good and bad scoring opportunities which is necessary for a guard that is looked to for scoring.
[player_tooltip player_id="188325" first="Sara" last="Lewis"] | 6'0 | W | Woodward Academy
Sara is back and has picked up right where she left off. It was good to see her back on the court and even with close to a year off from an injury, she has managed to look even better. She really can do it all. A competent defender on the perimeter and in the paint that does well-making shot attempts difficult. Because of her length and athleticism teams had a hard time determining who should cover her. On more than one occasion she was able to grab boards in traffic and burst to the rim for coast-to-coast layups. She's listed at the wing position here simply because she's the type of player that you can move anywhere on the court on both ends and she can produce.
[player_tooltip player_id="154592" first="Olivia" last="Hutcherson"] | 6'0 | F | Holy Innocents'
No official stats were taken at the event but unofficial stats had her with a double-double in the first round of games. Olivia is a tweener in every sense of the word, and a very good one. She can be moved around on the defensive end especially. Her impact on the court has a lot to do with how strong she is and how hard she works. She is consistently on the glass for boards and when given an opportunity to put the ball on the floor for straight-line drives it is tough to keep her from getting to the rim. I am a believer that she still has a lot of untapped potential around the perimeter and when that clicks for her lookout. With that being said, there should be plenty of coaches knocking on her door for what she has proven she can do consistently.
[player_tooltip player_id="335832" first="Alexus" last="Neal"] | 6'0 | C | Dothan (AL)
Watching Alexus play this past weekend was a pleasant surprise. I mentioned some of the out-of-state players in a preview for the event. Alexus certainly made her presence felt on the day of, and she did it in a very physical way. She immediately went to the block and battled with another prominent post in the state. What stood out to me was that she was not only loud in action but also loud in voice. If she was open she required the ball, showing hands and yelling “Ball!” She even yelled on a rebound at one point. A true post in size, skill set, and most importantly mentality. She blocked and challenged shots, rebounded, and showed a seasoned post-game that you do not see very often in the current basketball landscape. I'll be keeping tabs on her over in Alabama as our PGH Alabama site will launch this month.
