This high energy group placed three players on the all-event team in Chloe Clevenger Chloe Clevenger 5'6" | PG McPherson | 2023 State KS , Rory Conboy, and Madison Smith.
Chloe Clevenger Chloe Clevenger 5'6" | PG McPherson | 2023 State KS , 5’6″, PG, McPherson (KS), 2023 – Clevenger has the ability to create her own shot and looks to get downhill quickly when any opportunity arises. She finishes well with either hand at speed and teammates learned quickly to have their hands up to finish a dish or kickout. A high energy player on both ends of the floor who likes the challenge of defending the opposing team’s best ball handler.
Rory Conboy Rory Conboy 6'0" | PF Lindbergh | 2024 State MO , 6’0″, PF/SF, Lindbergh (MO), 2024 – Conboy, as my colleague Earl Austin described, is “a talented combo forward with her good footwork and variety of moves.” She has solid size that she puts to use in screen and roll game. She sets good screens and rolls effectively in anticipation of a dish or an offensive rebound look. Conboy also has very slick handles to get out of trouble, create opportunities on the perimeter, and lead the break with speed.
Layla Harjo Layla Harjo 5'4" | CG Lawrence | 2022 State KS , 5’6″, CG, Lawrence (KS), 2022 – What stood out the most is there was not a particular area where Harjo just flat shined. Rather, she played solidly on both ends of the floor. She showed quickness and experience on the defensive end, ran lanes well in transition, and took advantage of scoring opportunities when they presented themselves and scored with athleticism. She played within herself, provided a great deal of glue, and that made this team fun to watch.
Jada Hopson Jada Hopson 5'8" | SG Derby | 2022 State KS , 5’7″, PG, Derby (KS), 2022 – Hopson is a solidly built player with consistent transition speed. She showed quickness with the ball and aggressiveness on both ends of the floor. An athletic guard with plenty of potential to develop.
Kaylee McLain Kaylee McLain 5'5" | SG Leavenworth | 2022 State KS , 5’5″, CG, Leavenworth (KS), 2022 – I kept wanting to see McLain have that extra half step of quickness to execute what she wanted to do defensively against a couple of the high caliber guards. She worked to get in position and react to what she anticipated a ball handler was going to do. Just that little extra. Offensively McLain moved well without the ball into space, passed well to get the ball around the horn, and transitioned well. I did not get to see her perimeter range but did view her showing finishing ability with either hand.
Paige Price Paige Price 5'5" | SG Ottawa | 2023 State KS , 5’4″, SG, Ottawa (KS), 2023 – Price showed herself to be a credible perimeter shooter, spotting up well in anticipation of kick-out opportunities.
Bettye Ray, 5’7″, CG, Lincoln College Prep (MO), 2023 – Ray’s motor, athleticism, speed and strength were on display. She elevates on and controls rebounds well. She also showed her ability to knock down longer mid-range jumpers.
Madison Smith, 5’7″, SG, Derby (KS), 2024 – Runs the floor well. Catch on the run to finish versus three defenders. Good build. Moves away from the ball well. Extremely active on both ends of the floor. Runs the floor in transition. Showed the ability to shoot and with range. Great vision as a ball handler.
