Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey has revamped their prospect lists coming into the 2021-22 high school girls basketball season, expanding them and taking a closer look across the state to find the best of the best.
In this article, we’ll be taking a closer look at our rankings, specifically the 2022 class and the No. 10-12 seniors in the state as ranked by our PGH NJ scouts.
No. 10: Faith Pappas Faith Pappas 5'11" | SG Pope John | 2022 State NJ – 5-11 SG, Pope John
Pappas has been spectacular for Pope John over the past several seasons, a sharp-shooting 5-11 guard who has continuously improved her overall shooting year after year.
We’ve seen two consecutive seasons where Pappas has knocked down over two three-pointers a game, hitting nearly 2.5 threes a game in the spring, a career-high for her.
She’s consistently averaged around 15.0 PPG the past two seasons, but there’s been an added emphasis to the rest of her game, her passing, rebounding and defense. That’s been something that’s really come through this summer with Team Rio, so we’re expecting that to continue in her senior season.
No. 11: Mary Donnelly Mary Donnelly 5'10" | SF Manasquan | 2022 State NJ – 6-0 SG/SF, Manasquan
Donnelly has solidified herself as one of the best players not only in the Shore Conference, but all of the state. Her junior year at Manasquan was her breakout year without a question, nearly averaging a double-double.
She would end up leading Manasquan in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals in the spring and took her talents to Philly Rise’s 17U team this summer, arguably the best AAU team in the area.
The Holy Cross commit is poised for a big season this fall, which is expected to coincide not only with a double-double average, but some post-season honors and an All-Conference selection.
No. 12: Erika Mercedes Erika Mercedes 5'7" | PG Union City | 2022 State NJ – 5-7 PG, Union City
Mercedes joined Union City’s 1000 point club during her junior season, a testament to her dominance on the floor over the past three seasons. She averaged 21.5 PPG in the spring and was one of the best pure scorers in the HCIAL.
She’s solidified herself as a top guard in the conference and the region as someone who can not only score at will, but is an all-around playmaker who comes up big on both sides of the ball.
Due to her scoring, Mercedes’ defense goes under-the-radar as she’s averaged 2.6 SPG over the past two seasons, including a career-high 3.3 SPG this spring. We’ll see how much more progress she’s come along in her game this fall.
We’ll be continuing to push out more content as the season gets closer, so keep a close eye on PGH NJ for what is next.
