The high school season is fast approaching, so things are not only heating up across the Garden State, but also for us here at PGH NJ as our prospect profiles and team previews continue.
In this article, our focus shifts back to the aforementioned 2022 class as we take a look at the No. 41-43 seniors in the state for the coming winter season.
No. 41: Bella Murray Bella Murray 5'8" | SG Watchung Hills | 2022 State NJ – 5-8 SG, Watchung Hills
Talk about a breakout junior season, Murray was an electric player for Watchung Hills, averaging 17.1 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 0.7 BPG and 1.9 SPG in the spring.
She posted five 20+ point performances and a double-double in five of her last seven games, including her last four straight games. Murray is the lifeblood and the backbone of Watchung Hills and what we’ve now seen is a further development of her outside game.
Murray, after barely shooting from the perimeter, made over one three-pointer a game in the spring and with NJ Demons this summer, she kept on working on her outside game. That’s a big positive development from her going into the winter.
No. 42: Dakota Corey Dakota Corey 5'10" | SF Saddle River Day | 2022 State NJ – 5-10 SF, Saddle River Day
On a team that is dominated with seniors, Corey is one of the most impactful players on the team and a key to SRD’s success going into the winter. She averaged 11.7 PPG, 5.6 RPG and was second on team with 2.4 SPG in the spring.
Alongside players like Saniah Caldwell Saniah Caldwell 5'8" | PG Saddle River Day | 2022 State #52 Nation NJ and Paulina Paris Paulina Paris 5'9" | PG Saddle River Day | 2022 State NJ , Corey has some protection around her on the court and great players to help facilitate the ball to her.
She doesn’t need to worry about how she gets the ball to her, but she does need to continue to find ways to produce on the floor. Corey’s biggest key for the coming season is great perimeter defense leading to breakout scoring opportunities on offense.
No. 43: Megan Calahan – 6-3 SF, St. John Vianney
Calahan had a much-improved season this spring with SJV as she finished third in scoring and rebounding on the team, featuring as their primary forward in the middle.
She has all the raw talent to become an incredible playmaker, especially standing at 6-3. You can’t teach height and she’s been as advertised and then some for the Lady Lancers.
This season is a big one for the Holy Cross commit as if she can continue to push opponents to the brink on defense, she’ll really be able to take full advantage of her size advantage and punish the middle. The more consistency she has in those departments, the better that will benefit her overall game.
We’ll be continuing to look at the best players across the state leading up to the high school season, so stick with Prep Girls Hoops New Jersey for more content.
