Sometimes no punctuation. Always the same meaning. This kid shows in any situation that they are in that they want it more than anybody else on the court. They go the hardest. They hit the floor first on the loose ball. They just go hard all game long. Here are three players who really stood out because their play showed how much they wanted it.
Mia Brown Mia Brown 5'7" | CG Victory Christian | 2024 State OK | 5-7 G/F | Victory Christian | 2024 | @MiaBrown2024
Mia is a guard with very good size who is extremely strong. She works hard all game long and stands out as someone who wants their team to win, even in this showcase/thrown-together-team situation. She coached from the bench when she sat so that everyone could get some minutes. Brown is a vocal leader and an encouraging one. She shows good handles and a willingness to do all of the little things to help her team win. She is a tremendous passer who has great court vision. As only a 2024, it stands to reason that Brown’s basketball maturity is only going to improve and place her at a level well above her peers. She is a great player and going to be one to watch for a very long time to come.
Aubrey Hishaw Aubrey Hishaw 5'9" | SF Tulsa Union | 2023 State OK | 5-11 F | Union | 2023 | @AubreyHishaw
All of the hard work is beginning to pay off for Aubrey as she recently picked up an offer from Rogers State and their very good young head coach Kyle Bent. She stood out – yet again – at our showcase when she played hard and did all of the little things that we have come to expect when watching her play for both her club and school teams. She makes the smart basketball play, which is becoming more and more of a rare commodity in today’s high school basketball world. She plays defense which places her in the top 10 percent of all players that I see on a weekly basis across Oklahoma. She is that good. Hishaw is the real deal and the Hillcats made the right move offering her first. If their loyalty is rewarded in the long run, she can be a cornerstone of their program for years to come.
Allison Heathcock Allison Heathcock 6'0" | SG Edmond North | 2024 State OK | 5-11 G/F | Edmond North | 2024 | @Aheathcock2024
I have seen a lot of our No. 13-ranked player over the last few years and I have a feeling I’ll be seeing even more this coming season, especially when it comes to the state playoffs. I not only wrote down “wants it” for Allison this time around, but I wrote down the even more rare note of “nasty” next to her name. Now, just so you know, that isn’t a slight on anybody. That is the good kind of nasty. That is the Kobe Bryant kind of nasty. The Michael Jordan, drain the jumper in your face and walk away shrugging kind of nasty. Allison is a killer. She has a nasty streak that makes her take it personally if you shoot the ball in her vicinity, She wants to swat everything. She wants to challenge every possession. She also wants to put every shot in the bucket and if it doesn’t go in, she will be following it and fighting for the rebound. That kind of nasty. Good nasty.
