Continue ReadingTeam Carolina and Carolina Flames are joining forces this year which means you can see even more of the top talent in North Carolina playing in the same tournaments. Here are some of the athletes from the class of 2022 and 2023 that I got to see at their Southeast Elite Combine.
Ana Baptista | Rabun Gap | 2022
Baptista has great basketball size that she uses to pull up for her shots getting over her defenders. She also has some nice ball moves that she shows off when driving through the paint and finishing at the rim, and she’s quick when deciding to pull up for her jumper or take it all the way herself.
Freddicks Victory | Rabun Gap | 2022
Victory is already a tall athlete, and as someone who will certainly have a lot of arms swatting at the ball, she knows how to keep the ball high. She’s improving her footwork, and she can finish strong at the rim.
Reychel Douglas Reychel Douglas 6'0" | SG Millbrook | 2023 State #41 Nation NC | Millbrook | 2023
Douglas is a true athlete knowing exactly how to move with the ball and how to show off her jump shot. She gets her teammates involved with nice passes inside, and she is certainly a scorer herself showing off her range with ease. Her finesse with the ball makes her a fun guard to watch.
Darrionna Howard Darrionna Howard 6'1" | PF Clayton | 2023 State NC | Clayton | 2023
Howard has a quick close out on defense using her length and speed to make it nearly impossible for people to score against her. She is aggressive when driving the ball herself, and she can pull up to show off her jumpers from all over the court. Her moves with and without the ball make it easier for her to find her open shot or dump the ball to a teammate closer to the basket.
Corrie McLaughlin Corrie McLaughlin 6'1" | SF Millbrook | 2023 State NC | Millbrook | 2023
McLaughlin has great size where she can body someone in the post with ease. She also has nice ball moves handling it like guards making her a threat all over the court. She attacks the basket with ease finishing through contact.
Macy Wike Macy Wike 5'9" | SG Smoky Mountain | 2023 NC | Smoky Mountain | 2023
Wike seems to be a player who doesn’t get rattled easily as contact is flying her way, and she seems to embrace it preparing her shot to make sure she can still score. She runs the floor well making sure she’s available in transition, and she has nice range with her shot from deep.
Evangelia Paulk Evangelia Paulk 6'0" | SG Asheville | 2023 State NC | Asheville | 2023
Paulk’s length comes in handy on defense as she swats the ball away from her opponents when they are trying to dribble by her. She pushes the ball up the court herself as she knows how to finish at the rim or show off her jump shots all over the court. She makes smart decisions with the ball moving at high speeds in transition and has a nice Euro windmill move that is difficult to defend.
Emma Larios Emma Larios 5'7" | CG Asheville Christian Academy | 2023 State NC | Asheville Christian Academy | 2023
Larios seems to put blinders on when driving to the hoop not letting anything stand in her way whether she has to drive through contact or show off her ball moves to get around her opponents. She has a nice shot from behind the arc as well. Her focus on defense is also fun to watch as she does not let anyone get by her.
Sydney Barker Sydney Barker 5'6" | PG Jordan | 2023 State NC | Jordan | 2023
Barker controls the tempo of the game. She’s very fluid when handling the ball, and she has a quick release on her shot that makes it difficult to defend. She uses her skills to create separation between her and her opponents to make sure she can get the best pass to her teammates or put up the best shot.
