Each district is growing deeper, and more teams are making a play at the state tournament. There are still the perennial powerhouses such as Blackman High School (Murfreesboro, TN), Upperman High School(Baxter, TN), and Riverdale High School (Murfreesboro, TN). However, this season there are several new teams looking to make a push for a state championship.
Loretto High School (Loretto,TN) is returning their all district guard, Karly Weathers Karly Weathers 5'11" | CG Loretto | 2022 State TN . Karly took the season by storm averaging 20.8 ppg while shooting 81% from the free throw line. Last year, the Lady Bees ended the season on top by capturing the 2021 state title. This team winning the state championship was no fluke and could be at play for a repeat. The Lady Bees are coached by Ashley Rutledge who was recently named Coach of the Year by Basketball Coaches Association of TN. She will have her team locked in and ready to play.
Ensworth High School (Nashville, TN)
The lady tigers are looking to use the momentum from last year and build on its success. They are returning a dynamic guard in Jaloni Cambridge Jaloni Cambridge 5'8" | PG Ensworth | 2024 State FL . Cambridge is young but has already shown the ability to put the team on her back. She has the talent, but not the Division II-AA title yet. Ensworth will be a fun and exciting team that has the potential to have a special year.
Bradley Central
The Lady Bears made an early exit in the state tournament last year, but that was only their practice run. They are returning a plethora of players that gives them the opportunity to use that experience to execute in late game situations and learn from their previous mistakes. Bradley Central is looking to make a deep run and use last year as a steppingstone and not a onetime appearance.
There are about a dozen teams that have a chance at the state championship this year. With fans returning to the stands, the extra spark and motivation can help carry a team to the next level.
