Class A Prospects
In this article:
With the season approaching with the main slate of games beginning this Thursday, December 2nd, PGH Nebraska wanted to mention some worthy Class A prospects that haven’t been mentioned enough on the site.
Baylee Egan Baylee Egan 5'10" | SF Bellevue East | 2022 State NE – 5’10 F 2022 – Bellevue East – Nebraska-Kearney (D2) – Baylee is a do it all player for Bellevue East. She nearly averaged a double-double last season with 9.8 ppg. and 10.9 rpg. She’s all over the court, always getting her nose in the action and attacking the ball. A three-point threat and a rebounding machine. Can go off the dribble and score in multiple ways. Defensively, she brings high energy and effort, pressuring the ball and flying out to contest shooters. She had a 21 rebound game and had a streak of 10+ rebounds to end the season. She’s off to Nebraska-Kearney to continue her basketball career.
Riley Jensen Riley Jensen 5'10" | CG Bellevue East | 2022 State NE – 5’10 G 2022 – Bellevue East – Nebraska-Kearney (D2) – Riley is a big guard with a great size and movement combination. Her movement really stands out on the defensive side of the ball. Offensively, she can handle the ball and can get in the lane and become a major threat. She scored 11.6 ppg. and 7.3 rpg. She’s off to continue her career at UNK as well.
Aniah Wayne Aniah Wayne 5'9" | SF Omaha Central | 2022 State NE – 5’9 G/F 2022 – Omaha Cemtral – Northern Colorado (D1) – Aniah is a D1 commit, and by good reason. She competed for the Nebraska Attack UAA team, so she’s battle tested against top competition. If she wasn’t on such a stacked roster in Omaha Central, you’d see her stat numbers climb dramatically. She is a versatile prospect that put in 10.1 ppg., 4.6 rpg., and 1.8 stls. Expect her ranking to climb in the next update.
Ital Lopuyo Ital Lopuyo 6'5" | C Omaha Central | 2022 State NE – 6’5 C 2022 – Omaha Central – Texas A&M (Volleyball) – Ital is most likely the tallest and longest prospects in the entire state. Her inside ability and movement are quite impressive for her size. She came off the bench behind a Senior, but I expect her to be a starter in her final season. With her statistical numbers most likely to take a jump in the positive direction.
Aaniya Webb Aaniya Webb 6'0" | SG Omaha Central | 2022 State NE – 6’0 G 2022 – Omaha Central – Aaniya is a superbly long guard that is an absolute threat from deep shooting the the ball. Per MaxPreps, she’s a 1,000 point scorer heading into her Senior season, with 1,029 career points. She’s an aggressive shooter from three, making 45 on 152 attempts for 30%. She was an elite scorer, scoring 15.4 ppg. By my knowledge, she’s currently uncommitted.
Taryn Wharton Taryn Wharton 5'6" | PG Bellevue West | 2022 State NE – 5’6 PG 2022 – Bellevue West – University of Northern Iowa (D1) – Taryn is an electric and fantastic guard for Bellevue West. One of the top scorers in the state at 18.4 ppg. Plays with no fear and is a gunslinger of a shooter. She scored in double figures every game and nailed 69 threes on 182 attempts for an impressive 38%.
Kenzie Melcher Kenzie Melcher 5'11" | SG Bellevue West | 2024 State NE – 5’10 G 2024 – Bellevue West – Kenzie was a starter for Bellevue West as a Freshman, scoring 8 ppg. What stands out is her size and strong frame as a young guard. Kenzie is a threat as a set three-point shooter and made 32 threes on 88 attempts for 36%. She’s a next level prospect going forward.
Taylor McCabe Taylor McCabe 5'9" | CG Fremont | 2022 State NE – 5’9 G 2022 – Fremont – Iowa (D1) – Taylor is the best player in the state. A stud prospect that has 1,697 career points, and she’s poised to hit the 2,000 point mark. The best overall three-point shooter in the state who hit 106 threes on 42%.
Macy Bryant Macy Bryant 5'11" | PF Fremont | 2022 State NE – 5’11 F 2022 – Fremont – Nebraska-Kearney (D2) – Macy is a battler and high energy player. She’s simply a playmaker on both ends as a power forward type. A legitimate defender that can slide with the ball-handler, applying adequate pressure.
Sarah Shepard Sarah Shepard 5'11" | SF Fremont | 2022 State NE – 5’11 F 2022 – Fremont – Sarah is a fairly long prospect that possesses some defensive versatility, especially covering the perimeter at a high level. Uses her length well all over the court to make plays. Offensively, she is a surprisingly impressive distributor and is able to go off the dribble. She competed for the Nebraska Attack UAA team later in the summer. She averaged 11.6 ppg. and is a main piece to Fremont’s success.
Makenna Scholting Makenna Scholting 6'2" | PF Millard West | 2023 State NE – 6’2 F 2023 – Millard West – Makenna was just added to the database as a long 6’2 prospect that has some solid movement and athleticism to her. Wanted to give her a mention, as she has some upside with her length and athleticism if her ball skills keep taking steps forward.
