The event, held at Michigan Sports Facility in Jackson, featured some quality teams and an abundance of talented basketball players. In this article, we’ll name a Most Outstanding Player (MOP) and 2 Honorable Mentions from the scrimmages.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Zoie Bamm Zoie Bamm 6'1" | C Columbia Central High School | 2023 MI (2023, C, Columbia Central)
Bamm is just getting back in the swing of things after recovering from a knee injury, but it’s easy to see the true star power that she carries. Bamm will be one of the best post players in the state for the next 2 years.
Demi Bolton (2025, G, University High School)
Bolton is definitely a freshman to keep an eye on. She doesn’t play like a freshman, but instead pounds her dribble and attacks the defense with any opening.
Hailey Freshcorn Hailey Freshcorn 5'8" | PG Columbia Central | 2024 State MI (2024, G, Onsted)
Freshcorn played very well at the Flight Hankamp Scrimmages. She was shooting lights out from behind the arc and showed her ability to catch fire from deep.
Lizzy Scharer Lizzy Scharer 5'4" | PG Lenawee Chrisrian | 2022 State MI (2022, G, Adrian Lenawee Christian)
Scharer had one of those performances that you have to be there to appreciate. She was the key that started the engine for a 3-0 Lenawee Christian squad. Scharer was fast with the dribble, penetrated the lane with her right hand, and made plays for her teammates.
Kaylei Smith Kaylei Smith 5'8" | PG Onsted | 2022 State MI (2022, G, Onsted)
Smith proved that she’s a player to watch this season. She carries a reputation as a shooter, but what impressed me was her basketball IQ that made her look and play like a cagey veteran.
MOP
Kylie Summer Kylie Summer 5'9" | PG Lenawee Christian | 2022 State MI (2022, G, Adrian Lenawee Christian)
The Adrian Lenawee Christian team was very impressive, and honestly, I felt like I could have picked any of 3 of their players. Summer took home the Flight Hankamp Scrimmages MOP simply because of the way she shined on both ends of the floor. She created turnovers with her on the ball pressure defense and her understand of, and ability to, effectively trap. Summer played defense the entire length of the floor, showing quick feet and hands the entire way. Summer also showed her ability to shoot from behind the arc with consistency, in addition to her ability to heat up from outside and change the feel of the game.
