The event lasted all day, but I was only able to catch the evening games. The event served as a tune up to the regular season and here’s a quick look at some of the top standouts that I saw.
1. Hailey Johnson Hailey Johnson 6'0" | SF JSerrra HS | 2022 State CA – JSerra Catholic 2022
Johnson is a very skilled forward who can do a little bit of everything on the court. She can handle the ball on the break and she keeps her head up while dribbling. She can find open teammates running in transition. Sees the court very well for a forward. She has consistent range out to the three-point line; she squares up well and can shoot with defenders closing out on her. She moves well without the ball too and makes strong cuts to the rim. Has Ivy League interest.
2. Tatum Tamashiro – Rolling Hills Prep 2022
Tamashiro is capable of switching between both shooting guard and small forward and she can handle the ball well. She can initiate the offense in halfcourt sets and does a good job keeping the ball moving from side to side. Not really a point guard, but can be the primary playmaker. She has great vision can find open teammates. Does a good job handling the ball under defensive pressure. Her shot was a little off, but you can tell she’s a capable three-point shooter.
3. Allysan Tse – South Pasadena 2022
Tse is a forward with good size that has some guard-like skills. She’s very comfortable with the ball in her hands and creating her own offense. Her size allows her to see the court well and she can rise up and shoot over the defense. She has a nice fadeaway jumper when she gets position in the post. She can get to the rim, but can do a better job at controlling her body and finishing through traffic. She has a nice crossover and can get to her spots on the court. Good rebounder.
4. Myanna Emery – Serra (Gardena) 2022
Emery was instrumental in a come from behind Serra win over South Pasadena in their final game of the night. She did a good job moving without the ball; floating to the corners and getting herself free for an open three. She’s a great catch and shoot player with a quick release. Knocks down threes with consistency. She can also put the ball on the floor when the defense runs her off the three-point line. She can get into the lane and finish.
