Here are a couple of the individual matchups that I’m looking forward to seeing:
Kaylei Smith Kaylei Smith 5'8" | PG Onsted | 2022 State MI (2022, G, Onsted) vs. Nya Sanders (2022, G, Ferndale University)
Smith is a veteran player that is committed to Siena Heights University. She’s a bona fide game changing shooter with range beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Sanders has floated under the radar and is ready to turn some heads. Smith can put her stamp on this game with her jumper, while Sanders can put the ball on the floor, make plays, and put her name on the map.
Hailey Freshcorn Hailey Freshcorn 5'8" | PG Columbia Central | 2024 State MI (2024, G, Onsted) vs. Demi Bolton (2025, G, Ferndale University)
This is an interesting matchup between 2 underclassmen. Freshcorn has been documented a lot here on Prep Girls Hoops Michigan, and deservedly so. She’s got an impressive tool belt as a young guard. Bolton is an incoming freshman that could have an immediate impact. Both of these players could make a huge statement in this matchup and put their competition this year on notice.
Kennedy Ross (2022, F, Onsted) vs. Tadassa Brown Tadassa Brown 6'4" | C Brooklyn Columbia Central | 2022 State MI (2022, C, Brooklyn Columbia Central)
Ross is an athletic player that can get up off the ground in a hurry. She also has good footwork and moves smoothly. It will be interesting to see if she can use those physical abilities to matchup and rebound on the defensive end with one of the more intimidating post players in the state. When Ross has the ball, can she stretch the floor and pull Brown out of the paint?
