Throughout the past several weeks, Prep Girls Hoops has released in-depth region-by-region previews, highlighting each team in every region as well the important players that will make a difference in the standings.
As of today, we have released our A, AA and AAA region previews. We have moved on to the 4A slate with an emphasis on Region 2-AAAA.
Taylor Nutzman Taylor Nutzman 5'3" | PG Eastside | 2022 State SC – 2022 – Eastside HS – Eagles fans can send plenty of thanks to Nutzman as was a key component to Eastside claiming its first winning season since 2015-16. Prep Girls Hoops saw Nutzman earlier in the offseason at the team camp at Wofford College. She will definitely take care of the ball and excels in the passing game as well. Nutzman plays the game with a high basketball IQ which allows her to get herself and her team out of precarious situations. She has a skill for driving to the basket and converting on high-percentage shot opportunities. Nutzman averaged 12 points per game last season and also plays soccer at Eastside.
Jenna Sudduth Jenna Sudduth 5'5" | CG Greer | 2022 State SC – 2022 – Greer HS – The phrase “defend the perimeter” or “guard the 3” is probably often heard from coaches when preparing their teams to play the Yellow Jackets because of its sharpshooting senior. The 3-point shot is the hallmark of Sudduth’s game, giving coach Demarcio Downs’ team a deep threat in the backcourt. In addition to shooting the 3-pointer, Sudduth also is gifted as a passer and a rebounder and has no problems absorbing contact and finding herself at the free throw line. Outside of her play with the Yellow Jackets, she has played travel ball at Upward Stars.
J’Adore Young J’Adore Young 6'4" | C Greenville | 2023 State #27 Nation SC – 2023 – Greenville HS – Young is the top center in Prep Girls Hoops’ 2023 rankings. She made an appearance at the Top 250 Expo back in September in Myrtle Beach. Coaches look at how well fives rebound on either end of the floor and Young has proven that winning a battle on the boards against her is anything but easy. She is also gifted as a scorer, having averaged 11.3 points per game last season as well as a shot blocker, posting 4.8 rejections per contest in 2020-21. Young hoops for A’ja Wilson Elite in the grassroots realm and has received offers from Navy, Presbyterian and USC Upstate. She has been named Preseason Player of the Year for the region by SCBCA.
J’Adore is the Prep Girls Hoops Preseason Region Player of the Year.
Alaysia Nash Alaysia Nash 5'7" | CG Eastside | 2023 State SC – 2023 – Eastside HS – As was the case with her teammate Nutzman, Prep Girls Hoops also saw Nash at the Wofford camp back over the summer. She is coming off a sophomore campaign in which she averaged 17.3 points per game. As those stats suggest, she is a potent scorer with a knack for putting the ball through the hoop from anywhere on the floor. Nash will absorb contact, display plenty of activity on the glass and gives a team lots of hustle as she will dive for loose balls.
Jalasia Lewis Jalasia Lewis 5'9" | SF Greer | 2024 State SC – 2024 – Greer HS – The Yellow Jackets suffered an unceremonious first-round exit from last season’s 4A playoffs last season. With talents such as Lewis returning for her sophomore season, Greer has its eye on an even deeper postseason finish. Lewis is a lockdown defender. She makes things difficult for opposing ball carriers, collects her share of steals and will come from out of nowhere to make defensive plays. Lewis is certainly gifted as well in the transition game in addition to having plenty of quickness with the ability to handle the ball. She has also played volleyball while at Greer.
Amiyah Clark-Lamelle Amiyah Clark-Lamelle 5'3" | PG Greer | 2024 State SC – 2024 – Greer HS – Speaking of skilled 2024s the Yellow Jackets can boast of, Clark-Lamelle is one of those. She is one of those who can easily be overlooked by some scouts and coaches because of her being 4-foot-11, but she possesses a great deal of basketball skill. Clark-Lamelle is a ball distributor and knows how to take care of said ball. She will also take and make her share of shots from long range. Clark-Lamelle also provides plenty of defense for her team and puts herself in position to haul in rebounds. On the travel circuit, she played with Asheville, NC-based Lady Royals.
Prep Girls Hoops predictions:
Greer HS – The Yellow Jackets look to be well-motivated to get the bad taste of last season’s first-round playoff exit out their mouths.
Greenville HS – The Red Raiders graduated six seniors from last season’s team – including Trinity Franklin and Julia Bucci.
Eastside HS – Four of the Eagles’ defeats last season were against either Greer or Greenville.
Laurens HS – This season will be the second for for coach Aianna Kelly with the Raiders.
Greenwood HS – The Eagles will be competing in its second season since returning to the 4A ranks.
