I look forward to providing weekly recaps of standout and intriguing players across the state of Virginia which will be available every Sunday. Scrimmages covered in this article include Jefferson Forest High School vs Virginia Episcopal School, Albemarle vs. William Monroe, Marshall vs. Osbourne Park, Madison vs. Sidwell Friends.
Moriah Tate-Jefferson Forest-2025
The class of 2025 is not lacking for talent. Moriah is another name to add to the group. Playing the lead guard position, she has good vision and controlled the tempo of the game. She moved constantly, whether cutting through the lane or moving to open spots of the floor for jumpers. Moriah did a nice job finishing through contact in transition. She is an unselfish player, that looked to get her teammates involved.
Kennedy Hancock-Jefferson Forest-2024
Kennedy played hard both ends of the court. She was active in the post and wasn’t phased by double teams. She has good hands, catches in traffic and finished well around the basket. She had good awareness on the court, knowing where the ball was at all times. I look forward to seeing how she develops over the season, Jefferson Forest missed last season due to COVID.
Sasha Brody-VES-2025
Nice combo guard, that does it all. She has a strong frame and physical. She showed her ability to score in various ways, nice 3pt shot and pushes the ball in transition absorbing contact to get to the foul line. She was disciplined defensively, low defensive stance while applying ball pressure without reaching. Good rebounder from the guard position.
Keegan Morris Keegan Morris 5'8" | SG St. Anne's Belfield | 2026 State VA -VES-2025
Confident jump shooter, capable of playing any guard position but was most effective off catch and shoot. She hit some deep threes and also had nice floater down middle of the lane. Nice floater through the lane, moves well without the basketball. Active defensively, she applied good ball pressure and denied hard one pass away.
Ella Weaver Ella Weaver 6'0" | SF WMHS | 2023 State VA -William Monroe-2023
Can play any position on the court at this level. She is a 6ft guard, who used her size to post up and draw fouls. She has an arsenal of moves, good ball handling skills and is their primary offensive weapon. Ella played unselfish, looking to get her teammates involved early.
Amaya Pendleton-Albemarle-2022
Had the toughest defensive match-up of the night, did a great job moving her feet and keep opposing players in front of her. Amaya rebounded well from the guard position, leading fast breaks often taking it coast to coast. She had good looks from the 3pt line and her percentage will increase as the season progresses. Used nice crossover to change directions and get into the paint.
Hailey Kellogg Hailey Kellogg 5'7" | PG Osbourn Park | 2022 State VA -Osbourn Park-2022
Hailey played at a nice tempo throughout the game, got her teammates involved while showing her ability to know down shots. Good three point shooter who has a quick first step that consistently got her past defenders. She makes good decisions in the paint and displayed various passes putting her teammates in scoring position.
Grace Arnolie Grace Arnolie 5'8" | CG James Madison | 2022 State VA -Madison-2022
Playing guard position she faced constant pressure, Sidwell attempted to trap her and she did a good job of utilizing reverse dribble with her head up to get out of traps and make cross court passes. She played unselfishly, didn’t force anything and involved her teammates throughout the game.
