SD Class A: Quick Glance, Teams To Watch
In this article:
- Winner- The Warriors are led by University of Kanas commit, Bella Swedlund Bella Swedlund 5'8" | CG Winner | 2022 State SD . In the last few years they have tasted victory of being champions. Along with the bitterness of just missing the title game. As this team continue to grow throughout the season, it may be scary for their opponents
- St Thomas More- Rich in tradition and chips, the Cavaliers won 5 straight championship from 2014 to 2018. This year they look forward to making it back to the mountain top. With leaders like Reese Ross Reese Ross 6'1" | SF St. Thomas More | 2023 State SD and Mairin Duffy Mairin Duffy 5'11" | PF St Thomas More | 2022 State SD , we expect STM to be right there near the finish line.
- West Central- As the season progresses we can easy see WC as a top five team. The graduated some key players and all state members. However, they have some returning player with endless experience. Rylee Haldeman Rylee Haldeman 5'3" | PG West Central | 2022 State SD will be one of those leaders returning. She brings a toughness and fearlessness to the team. Tabor Teel Tabor Teel 6'0" | SG West Central | 2022 State SD , a transfer from Tri-Valley, will fill the void of losing players. She’s another one with tons of experience and grittiness to her game.
- Flandreau- The Fliers took Sioux Falls Christian to the edge in last year state qualifying match. They bring back All-State member Claire Sheppard Claire Sheppard 6'1" | SF Flandreau | 2024 State SD and All-Conference member Maria Parsley Maria Parsley 5'9" | SF Flandreau | 2022 State SD . Look out for the Fliers to, well you know, fly!!!
- Dakota Valley- DV could easily be in the title game come March. With Rylee Rosenquist Rylee Rosenquist 5'8" | CG Dakota Valley | 2022 State SD leading the way, the panthers are once heck of a challenge. The have some tough and hard nose players in that program.
- Hamlin- Once you make it to the final game, you start to feel like you belong there every year. I think the Chargers have those same feeling. After losing in the title game, Hamlin is looking to make it back. We can officially say there will be an new Class A champion, since Aberdeen Roncalli moved down to Class B.
- Sioux Falls Christian- It seems like SFC lost a lot of keys players to graduation. However, they are restocked and retooled with significant experienced players. Kylah VanDonkersgoed Kylah VanDonkersgoed 6'2" | PF Sioux Falls Christian | 2022 State SD and Ellie Lems will lead the pack for 21’-22’ Chargers. With players like that you can see why last season’s depth chart was long.
- Florence/Henry- The Watson sisters are down right players! They may not get the most recognition but they put on a show every time they touch the floor.
- Tea Area-They have Katie Vasecka Katie Vasecka 6'2" | CG Tea Area | 2024 State SD !!!! Enough said!
- Mount Vernon/Plankinton- MVP plays as solid as any team. Emilee Fox Emilee Fox 5'8" | CG Mt.Vernon/Plankinton | 2024 State SD “Baby Em” has a package in her bag no one else has. Maria Baker Maria Baker 5'11" | SF Mt. Vernon/Plankinton | 2022 State SD is another go-to player. Most teams don’t have two high quality scorer but MVP does.
