While not having monster moves like found with the 2022 and 2023 classes, four players made notable advances. Enjoy this look at the four, listed by number of positions advanced.
Lauren Sandstrom Lauren Sandstrom 6'1" | CG Hayden | 2024 State KS , 5’9″, CG, Hayden – Sandstrom turned heads in the scoring column last season especially after Macy Smith Macy Smith SF Hayden | 2022 State KS went down with a knew injury. With Smith back Sandstrom’s size, physicality, and three point shooting will make the Wildcats’s offensive attack very diversified. She climbs 13 spots to #56.
Amani Lipscomb Amani Lipscomb 5'2" | PG Houston | 2024 State TN , 5’2″, PG, Andover – Lipscomb missed the majority of her freshman season due to injury. She started the summer easing into club action, knocked off the rust over the next couple of months, and finished off her summer by showing every trick in her bag at the Kansas City PGH Top 250 Expo in October. My colleague Phillipe McCree noted that “at 5’2, Lipscomb was one of the smaller players at the Expo, but one of the biggest hearts. She has elite speed with the ball in her hands. A very good on the ball defender. As smaller guard, Lipscomb has a variety of finishes around the basket.” Lipscomb is very quick and aggressive with the ball, leads the break well, and distributes the ball off the drive including with a no-look. She has especially worked hard on her shot over the summer and does a terrific job with her shot selection. Defensively she sits in her chair well and uses her quick hands to disrupt ball handlers. With Lipscomb helping run the Trojan show, teams had best not overlook Andover in the AVCTL Div II. Limpscomb jumps 11 spots to #29.
Abigail Long Abigail Long 5'8" | CG Shawnee Mission East | 2024 State KS , 5’8″, CG, Shawnee Mission East – Earning honorable mention selection as a freshman in the Sunflower League is quite an accomplishment. Long is just getting started. At the Blue Star All-American Camp in September she showed deep three point range, good handles elevation on her jumper, and to create her own shot on the perimeter. Physically she has good length, quickness to generate steals in the half court, and maneuvers her body well to alter her shot on the finish. Long jumps eight spots to #11.
Jadyn Wooten Jadyn Wooten 5'6" | PG Blue Valley | 2024 State KS , 5’6″, PG, Blue Valley – “J Woo” has been on my radar since the first Prep Girls Hoops Top 250 Exposure Event in Iowa back in October 2019. Among a high talent turnout she was among the most talented. Several PGH scouts have seen her play in the years since then, most recently Earl Austin. He noted that she hit a tough, contested jumper to win a game at the October Missouri Phenom Hoopfest and showed herself to be an elite passer. When she was playing for Team KC Hoops Mia Laube reported that “she has a quick burst and can elevate over defenders in the lane. She proved to be much stronger than she looks in the paint when she spun and finished off of an explosive power dribble.” National scout Mason Asher also reported that she “…is a very skilled guard who gets to her spot really well, she is confident, can get into her jumper anywhere on the floor.” and had a very advanced game for her age. The Eastern Kansas League second team selection is not to be overlooked defensively as she she has good intensity and turns turnovers into points. Wooten breaks into the top ten by jumping eights spots to #9.
