Scrimmages covered in this article include: Colgan vs. Hayfield, Charlottesville vs. Waynesboro, Centreville vs. Annandale, King William vs. Lancaster, Manor vs. Lakeland.
Brianna Long-Colgan-2024
Raw offensively with length and athleticism, has a good foundation to build from. She was most impactful on the defensive end of the floor, guarding primarily in the post she moved her feet well and challenged shots without fouling. She got a steal and using her long stride made an uncontested layup on other end. She struggled to finish contested shots around the basket, but knows where to be offensively and with continued practice she will become more consistent.
Alana Jones-Colgan-2023
Quick floor general, pushed the ball with her head up finding open teammates up court. She applies defensive pressure, hassling opposing guards. She is a confident ball handler who doesn’t over dribble and impacts the game without scoring.
Rayquel Allen-Charlottesville-2024
This kid was impressive, she defends 94ft aggressively. Crafty around the basket, showed good court vision and ball handling skills. She created shots for herself and her team throughout the night. She had one sequence where she hit a 3, got a steal for a euro-step finish and then created a turnover on inbounds play. She did a good job reading the passing lanes all game.
Kaleah Wells Kaleah Wells 5'3" | CG Centreville | 2023 VA -Centreville-2023
Kaleah is a high energy player, she applies 94ft of pressure and got several steals. She is a pass first point guard, she handled the ball well all night and her head was always up looking to pass ahead. Kaleah’s quickness allowed her to get wherever she wanted on the court, drew defenders in the paint and dished off to teammates for easy buckets.
Allie Patterson Allie Patterson 6'1" | PF King William | 2022 State VA -King William-2022
Great size at 6’2, made easy passes over the top of the defense. Was able to put the ball on the floor and get to the basket. Had a nasty block in the first half, contested shots and protected the paint all night. She can shoot out to the 3pt line, would like to see her be more aggressive on the offensive end as her team will need her to score a lot this season.
Anjanae Richardson Anjanae Richardson 5'7" | PG Manor | 2023 State VA -Manor-2023
Smooth floor general, makes the game look easy. She did what she wanted whether that was get into the paint to score or make nifty passes to teammates. She got to the paint whenever she wanted, no one could keep her in front of them. She got several steals in the full court press with timing her jumps and snagging the ball out the air. This young lady is fun to watch and I look forward to seeing her more this season.
Desire Short-Manor-2022
Had a quick start to the game, getting and easy five points and steal which resulted in a trip to the foul line. She has deep range on her shot, can get to the basket and finish with either hand. She displayed a nice mid-range game and can shoot well off the dribble created opportunities for herself. Desire utilized her length on the defensive end to get steals and deflections.
Kemonye Canady-Lakeland-2022
Quick lead guard that showed her ability to get into the lane and drew fouls all night. She is a good ball handler and comfortable handling pressure. She is an aggressive offensive player who played unselfish, looking to get her teammates involved. Good defender, she sliders her feet well and was able to get her hands on loose balls.
