Continue ReadingAfter the first two days of play in the SEMO Conference Tournament, the seeds have held for the most part as there’s only been one upset. Much like the overall team performances, the individual talent showcased in this tournament has certainly not disappointed. There have also been several breakout performers, while the cream of the crop has continued to prove why basketball in Southeast Missouri is some of the best one could hope to find in the Show-Me State.
Day 1 (Nov. 29)
2022 6’1″ SF Karris Allen Karris Allen 6'1" | SF Sikeston | 2022 State MO – Sikeston: Scored a first-round, tournament-high 23 points in a 61-42 win over Poplar Bluff. Effortless pull-up jumper and can do so from anywhere in the mid-range game. Has hops for days and spins her way into easy buckets. Swats shots left and right. Incredible handle with great push of the ball. Vocal leader.
2023 5’10” SG Katie Waller Katie Waller 5'10" | SG Jackson | 2023 State MO – Jackson: Produced 19 points in a 63-27 win over New Madrid County Central. Natural slasher who fields nice moves to get to and finish well around the rim. Dangerous catch-and-shooter. Nice handle and control of the ball. Cleans glass well for putbacks. Smooth one-handed pass.
2022 5’6″ SG Amyari Blissett Amyari Blissett 5'6" | SG Sikeston | 2022 State MO – Sikeston: Finished with 20 points en route to a near 20-point win over Poplar Bluff, 61-42. Catches serious fire from beyond the arc as teams should never leave her open from 3-point range. Has a nice dribble drive to the basket and does well to free herself up in the lane. High motor as she’s always hustling for the ball. Reads passes well for picks. Smooth passer.
2024 5’7″ PG Holland Guilliams – Jackson: Helped lead her team to a 63-27 win over NMCC by running the show. Commands the offense with a true knack of distributing the ball accompanied by smooth handle and great court vision. Excellent defender who is always swiping for the ball and picks off several passes each game. Nice lateral quickness and on-the-ball defense.
Day 2 (Nov. 30)
2023 6’1″ SF Tori Rubel Tori Rubel 6'1" | SF Cape Notre Dame | 2023 State MO – Cape Notre Dame: Filled the stat sheet in a 50-28 win over Saxony Lutheran with 10 points (3-of-4), four rebounds, four steals, three assists and one block. Possesses arguably the smoothest shooting stroke in Missouri mixed with a lethal crossover. Has a variety of shots to make for great finishes around the rim. Full-court threat. Incredible length to block, deflect and swipe. Glass cleaner.
2023 5’4″ CG Ki Bogan Ki Bogan 5'2" | CG Cape Central | 2023 State MO – Cape Central: Despite falling to Dexter 51-47, she still produced a game-high 22 points. The most dangerous fast-break scorer in Southeast Missouri due to her breakaway speed. Is always looking to pick player’s pockets for easy scores. Has nice slashing ability and fakes well along with a deadly spin move. Possesses a nice floater. Gets after it on defense with her nonstop hustle.
2023 5’5″ SG Jenna Givens Jenna Givens 5'4" | SG Cape Notre Dame | 2023 State MO – Cape Notre Dame: Scored a team-high 14 points and hit four 3-pointers in a 50-28 win over Saxony. Gets in a scary-quick rhythm hitting threes and swishes most of them. Nice, direct drive down the lane to attack the rim. Uses her drive to draw defenders and makes nice passes from under the rim to beyond the arc. Pest defensively as she presses ball handlers to give them little to no room.
2023 5’10” SF Caitlin Giles Caitlin Giles 5'10" | SF Dexter | 2023 State MO – Dexter: Had 13 points and made clutch plays in the end to help her team beat Cape Central 51-47. Demands a lot of attention inside as she’s fluid around the rim and has a smooth floater. Moves well without the ball to get open. Nice overall length and is opportunistic on defense. Comes up with momentum-changing blocks.
