This one deserved some type of hype nickname like the Rumble it the Jungle or the Thrilla in Manilla but nothing really rhymes with The St. James. The game, however, was actioned pack and featured the first 40 piece game of note in a few years. Ny’Cera Pryor’s 40 point game wasn’t enough to overcome Spalding’s balanced attack. It was a big win for first year head coach Terah Mustaf and a win that could boost the Cavaliers back to the prominence that had in the early 2000’s.
Kamari Sims Kamari Sims 6'0" | PF Riverdale Baptist | 2023 State MD – 6’1″ – Post – Archbishop Spalding – 2023
Kamari stood out in the beginning as an inside presence on the offensive boards. She got to the line early with rebound-putbacks getting six of her ten free-throw attempts in the first quarter. Then she showed her mobility attacking from the high post. Seeing her shoot the three put things in perspective that she is a well-rounded stretch four that can do a little bit of everything. When the smoke cleared, she tallied a 20-point double-double on the score sheet.
Ny’Ceara Pryor Ny’Ceara Pryor 5'2" | PG Western | 2022 State MD – 5’5″ – Point Guard – Western – 2022
Dropping four dimes in a high school game is an incredible feat, when you are the shortest player on the floor at a generous 5’5″ it’s astounding. Ny’Ceara dominated with 40 points and to my count 8 assists and 8 steals. She did everything she could as the Doves fell 72-68 to Spalding. The comment of the night was hearing one fan leaving out saying “we would have won if she scored 45”.
Farrah Peterein – 5’10″ – Wing – Archbishop Spalding – 2022
Farrah showed a nice shooting touch and great range scoring 17 points to include three 3-pointers. She was able to take some pressure off of the point guard by bringing the ball down and pushing it in transition. She played smart not forcing plays that wasn’t there.
Gabby Johnson – 5’8″ – Guard – Western – 2022
Gabby was part of the Doves one-two punch. She added 17 points as she and Pryor contributed around 90% of their teams points. Gabby kept the tempo of the game moving at a high pace as she played fast on both ends.
Mariah Sanabia Mariah Sanabia 6'0" | PF Archbishop Spalding | 2023 State MD – 6’0″ – Wing – Archbishop Spalding – 2023
Mariah is a long athletic wing that runs the floor like a track star. She has long strides and also nice form on her shot that makes her a very good free throw shooter. She had 17 points in the win for the Cavaliers as she finished well on her drives.
