Sometimes the headline games attract all of the attention. Many times championship teams are formed finding that under the radar talent, the sleeper, some would call the hidden gem. North Point, Holy Child, Ryken and West Potomac may not be in the top conferences or have a national top 100 ranked player but talent is still talent regardless of rankings. Here’s a blitz on some of the little knowns that made a big impact.
Natalie Johnson Natalie Johnson 5'7" | CG North Point | 2022 State MD – 5’8″ – Combo Guard – North Point – 2022
Natalie had a game high 21 points as the Eagles fell short in a one point loss. She is their leading scorer and put points up on the drive and from beyond the arc with three 3-pointers.
Carine Pinkney – 5’0″ – Point Guard – St. Mary’s Ryken – 2022
Typically measuring only 5’0″ would be considered a disadvantage in basketball, for Carine it is far from it. She is super quick and her size allows her to slip into gaps and easily get through traffic. It somewhat appears as if she is invisible to defenders because many times they don’t even react to her first step. She is consistently showing a good shot with nice elevation.
Carson Burwell Carson Burwell 5'4" | PG North Point | 2025 State MD – 5’6″ – Point Guard – North Point – 2025
Carson kept the flow of the offense going finding open players and getting everyone involved. She had a team high five assists to go with her three points.
Morgan Lewis – 5’8″ – Wing – North Point – 2022
Lewis had eight points in the contest against West Potomac. She has an athletic frame and attacked the basket with good speed to force contact and get to the line.
Mary Prater – 5’9″ – Guard – West Potomac – 2022
Prater scored 17 points in the win over North Point. She showed a very good shooting touch with nine of her team high points coming from beyond the arc.
Jaeda Wilson – 5’9″ – Small Forward – Holy Child – 2024
Jaeda led her team 15 points scoring both inside and out. She is required to do a lot for Holy Child as they may need to add one more piece to take the double team pressure off of her.
Tayloni Ricks – 5’10” – Forward – North Point – 2022
Tayloni scored nine points and added three assists in the game. She is one of those glue players that do little things that don’t make the scoresheet like flaring out to draw defenders from the basket to free up the lane for a teammate to score.
Kisa Lilly Kisa Lilly 5'4" | CG Holy Child | 2024 State MD – 5’5″ – Point Guard – Holy Child – 2024
Lilly is super fast and it translates into great defense. She would be what you would consider a defensive specialist as she was assigned to Rykens top scorer in the box and one and also played the top of the press. She scored 8 points with a couple of three pointers having shooting in her blood as, her college brother was one of the areas top shooters
Maggie O’Boyle – 5’9″ – Wing – Holy Child – 2023
Maggie’s shooting stood out from a couple of courts down as I looked over a couple times seeing her drop 3-pointers with nice form. She has good size for a college wing and plays smart.
