Despite nearly giving up a double-digit lead at the half, the Panthers survived a furious closing stretch from the Falcons to win the first of two matchups this season. Prep Girls Hoops NC highlights the standouts from this high level contest.
Zamareya Jones Zamareya Jones 5'6" | PG North Pitt | 2024 State NC (North Pitt 2024 guard)
Despite her shooting struggles for most of the game, Zamareya Jones Zamareya Jones 5'6" | PG North Pitt | 2024 State NC proved why she’s one of the top guards in the 2024 class. She recorded 12 assists with most of those coming in the first half to help her team get out in front. In the second half, Jones started to get to the basket with ease creating easy shots for herself and others.
Kenae’ Edwards (North Pitt 2024 guard)
North Pitt has another talented 2024 guard in Kenae’ Edwards and she finished with 15 points in this contest. Most of her damage came from three point range and that got the Panthers going in the first two quarters. She also attacked defenders off the dribble at a high rate and rebounded well for her size. Edwards is a major addition to this Panthers team and will have an important role in the offense throughout the season.
Kayla Friend Kayla Friend 6'0" | PF South Central | 2022 NC (South Central 2022 forward)
Kayla Friend Kayla Friend 6'0" | PF South Central | 2022 NC played a big role in South Central’s comeback attempt in the second half scoring 14 of her 18 points in the final two quarters. Whether it was mid-range jump shots or attacking the basket, Friend is a matchup problem for most teams. She ran the floor well leading to some opportunities in transition and rebounded well throughout the course of the game.
Alondra Jordan (South Central 2022 guard)
Senior guard Alondra Jordan kept the Falcons in the game for most of the second half thanks to some timely outside shooting. Her ability to knockdown threes helps South Central get more spacing opening up driving lanes for her teammates. She also grabbed some big rebounds down the stretch and made it difficult on the Panthers defense at times.
