Continue ReadingIn a great battle between two of the best programs in the 252 area code, the North Pitt Panthers prevailed over the South Central Falcons 57-51 Tuesday in Bethel. Despite nearly giving up a double-digit lead at the half, the Panthers survived a furious closing stretch from the Falcons to win the first of two matchups this season. Prep Girls Hoops NC looks at more standouts from this high level contest.
Aquarius Pettaway (North Pitt 2022 forward)
Unsigned senior Aquarius Pettaway is starting to get some interest from several programs across the state. She brings toughness, rim protection, rebounding, and hustle to the Panthers starting lineup and all of that was on display in this game. Pettaway finished with six points and nine rebounds for the Panthers in this contest and will be a key piece to the teams success as the season goes on.
J’Nadia Maye (North Pitt 2022 guard)
J’Nadia Maye led North Pitt with 16 points in the game and hit a couple of crucial fourth quarter free throws to seal the win. She provides a major scoring spark to this Panthers team and made several defensive plays in the final seconds to keep the Falcons from forcing overtime. A big season from Maye could go a long way for North Pitt as they look to make a deep playoff run.
Kayla Smith (South Central 2022 guard)
Unsigned senior guard Kayla Smith is another prospect coaches should keep an eye out for. She had 12 points for the Falcons with most of that coming in the final two quarters. Smith is efficient when running her teams offense and finds a way to make an impact on both ends of the floor. She got in the passing lanes and made a number of deflections for her team to get back in the contest.
