There are several teams who have three and four players who can get 15+ on any given night. This makes the competition more fun to watch and brings a great level of intensity to the game.
Katherine Graves – Senior – Cookeville High School
Graves is a stretch four who can really thrive within an offense, who likes to play in the half-court. She has a confident three-point shot and does not rely on her athleticism to capitalize on the offensive end. She has a nice turnaround jump shot, to take advantage over smaller post, and her ability to shoot three creates even more space for her to work in the paint. Graves can bring the ball up the court when her team is not on the fast break.
Bailey Burgess – Senior – Bearden High School
Bailey is a high-quality three-point shooter with deep range. She has a quick release and if the defender is a second late, the ball is in the air. She shoots with so much confidence that you hope she misses. She has a step-back three which in high school girls basketball you do not see a lot of. Her range is already passed the college three so she will need no adjustment there. In her last outing, she knocked down five threes. Bailey plays with so much joy and passion for the game it is exciting to watch
Raegan Trumm – Senior – Powell High School
Trumm is a fundamental player who plays within her game. She has an unorthodox shot and defenders never know when she is going to let it go. She plays with a unique pace that you can’t really time well. She plays a lot with her head giving the defenders head fakes and the shooting motion. Trumm is not lightning fast but she has a high basketball IQ and plays within her skill set. She is not afraid of contact either. She can finish through contact as well as finishing when defenders try and grab the ball. She can make tough finishes with her off hand and remains poised and focus on the rim.
Emily Gonzalez – Senior – Bearden High School
Gonzalez is a hounding defender who plays hard on the defensive end. She has quick hands when the offensive player puts the ball in front of her, and savvy when she is beat to back tap the ball free. When Gonzalez is in the half-court she is looking to drive the basketball. She is looking to find seams and if she can’t find one she has the strength to finish through contact. Also, her best move can be the face-up at the elbow one-dribble pull up with a slight step back. Although her first instinct is to drive the basketball that does not stop her from shooting the three if you give her too much space. Gonzalez is fiery and plays with energy that can be useful when the team is in a drought.
These are not the only players who had good games this week, but the ones who have had good starts to the season. East Tennessee has a plethora of talent.
