The Hoop State AKA North Carolina had a few teams playing down on the Grand Strand in Myrtle Beach this past week. Let’s take a look at a few of these teams that Prep Girls Hoops was able to watch play.
Cannon School and Julius Chambers HS both took part in the United Bank Invitational this past week. Cannon played in the John T. Rhodes Division while Chambers played in United Bank Division. Cannon finished in 3rd place with a (2-1) record while Chambers finished (1-2).
POST Player Still Available
Trinity Moreland Trinity Moreland 6'2" | C Julian Chambers | 2022 NC is one of the top post players still looking for a college next season. Moreland a left-handed center was able to finish today utilizing a great head-fake move and drops-step down in the paint. Trinity has a nice set of soft hands to catch anything thrown her way. Trinity is averaging 7.8 ppg and 5.8 rebounds this season for the Chambers HS Lady Cougars.
2023 Hoop State Has Plenty of Talent
Zoe Henderson Zoe Henderson 5'11" | SF Northside Christian | 2023 NC , Aaliyah El Aaliyah El 5'8" | CG 1 of 1 Prep Academy | 2023 State NC and Samyha Suffren Samyha Suffren 5'8" | PG Cannon | 2023 State NC all play in the 2023 class. Henderson plays the game with a great understanding and really does a good job communicating at all times on and off the floor. El scrapped and dived for everything she came around today for the Lady Cougars. Aaliyah uses her body well to fight off defenders going to the cup and brings a fierce attitude on the defensive end of the floor.
Suffren is already off the board for next year as she will head to Virginia Tech to play for the Hokies. Samyha was able to cross-over defenders on the way to the cup or stop and pop with a nice mid-range jumper today for the Cannon Lady Cougars. She was able to pick-up a few steals heading the other direction with her quick hands in the passing lanes.
Change of Uniform
Last year here at the United Bank Invitational Seini Hicks Seini Hicks 6'0" | SF Purcell Marian | 2024 State OH was wearing a Cannon Cougars uniform this year she’s in a Julius Chambers HS jersey. Hicks a sophomore really goes to work down in the paint with her constant activity and competitive edge down in the paint. She will look to crash the glass every time while picking up some loose change buckets in return. Hicks has a GREAT NOSE FOR THE BALL AT ALL TIMES.
2024 Guards With Bright Futures
Mila Holloway Mila Holloway 5'9" | PG Legacy Early College | 2024 State SC and Lili Booker Lili Booker 5'7" | CG Mallard Creek | 2024 State NC both have bright futures moving forward. Holloway a point guard at Julius Chambers HS came into the weekend averaging 13 ppg, 3.2 assists and 3.3 steals. Mila does a great job of changing speeds and directions in the open floor. She was able to connect on some floaters in the lane when she wasn’t knocking down mid-range jumpers.
Booker played last season at Providence Day before coming over to the Cannon Cougars. Lili was crafty all day long using ball-screens and leaking out on the break. Booker scored 18 points according to my unofficial stats vs Peachtree Ridge HS (GA).
