Lakewood HS hosted 8 teams for the holiday weekend in the 2022 MLK Classic this past Friday and Saturday. We take a look at some of the standout wings from the event.
Ace Sturdivant Ace Sturdivant 5'10" | CG Clearwater | 2023 State FL (Clearwater HS) – 5’11 Guard – Class of 2023
Sturdivant outside shooting in the 3rd quarter kept the score close vs Plant, ash she knocked down four 3-pointers in the 3rd quarter to go along with her two 3-pointers in the first half to finish with a team high 22 points with six 3-pointers. Unfortunately, she was held scoreless in the 4th quarter and Plant defeated Clearwater, outscoring them 44-28 in the second half. Sturdivant, like the rest of her Clearwater teammates will need to take on an increased role and be a consistent 20-point scorer to give Clearwater a chance. She is a big guard, who can shoot the 3 and attack off the dribble. She is a skilled offensive player, who when shooting a high percentage from the field, and having good shot selection is very effective on the offensive end.
Morgan Sieper Morgan Sieper 6'0" | PG Plant | 2023 State FL (Plant HS) – 6’0 Wing – Class of 2023
Sieper is a wing/forward who knocked down open 3’s and uses her length and wingspan well in Plant’s 1-3-1 zone. She finished with 8 points, making two 3-pointers and doing a good job encouraging sharing the ball and moving without the ball, helping Plant’s balanced offensive attack.
Liv Fuller Liv Fuller 5'10" | SF Clearwater | 2023 State FL (Clearwater HS) – 6’0 Forward – Class of 2023
Fuller did her normal thing, dropping 14 points and coming close to a double-double as I unofficially had her with 8 rebounds. She is a stretch 4, who is a super athlete and very good rebounder. She continues to work on her perimeter shooting and her handle, knocking down a 3 from the wing vs Plant. With Clearwater essentially playing a 6 man rotation, Fuller will likely have to be a 16 and 10 player consistently each night in order for them to have a chance to win.
Jaeden Williams (Winter Haven HS) – 5’10 Wing/Forward – Class of 2025
Williams was impressive in Winter Haven’s game vs Brooks DeBartolo, displaying her versatility and ability to play inside and out. She is a 5’10 Freshman that went back and forth between playing the wing spot and playing inside. Williams was very effective pulling her defender away from the rim and attacking her off the dribble. She has a smooth offensive game with a ton of potential!
Kayla Smith Kayla Smith 5'10" | SF Winter Haven | 2022 State FL (Winter Haven HS) – 5’11 Wing – Class of 2022
Smith is one of the top unsigned Seniors in the state of Florida and does a little bit of everything for Winter Haven HS. She is a long, versatile wing who can knock down the open 3 and put it to the floor off the dribble. She is a lefty that is ready to shoot on the catch and does a good job playing off the shot fake and the jab step. Winter Haven is shorthanded due to injuries and COVID issues, and they need Smith to drop 20+ points per game nightly to be competitive.
