That would be weird to do with the freshmen as none of them have committed yet and for good reason. But, whatever these seniors’ reasons for waiting are, they are still available and you coaches have a chance to offer them – as far as I know. Today we will take a look at the five highest-ranked players who are uncommitted and what skills they could bring to a college club.
No. 8 – Micah Gray Micah Gray 5'8" | CG Classen SAS | 2022 State OK | 5-8 CG | Classen SAS | @MicahGray2022
Micah scored her 1,000th point just a few days ago, but really she is far from just a scorer. While playing for a team loaded with stars at Classen SAS, Micah has become a facilitator who can do all of the little things, as well. She is a tremendous passer with vision who passes with precision and intention and doesn’t turn the ball over. She is a strong guard with good handles and great speed who shows a change of pace that throws defenders off balance and gives her the ability to finish from multiple levels. Gray is a very good defender with quick hands who is also capable of blocking shots with very good length. When I say she is a well-rounded player, she is a very, very well-rounded player. Micah is a no doubt Division-I athlete should she so choose and already has offers from Tulsa, Eastern Michigan, and James Madison.
No. 18 – Sydni Smith Sydni Smith 6'2" | C Union | 2022 State OK | 6-2 F/C | Union | @sydnismith2022
Smith is an incredibly tough post player on one of the best 6A squads in the state. She may have stopped publicizing her offers, but last I heard, her only D-I offer was from Lamar and that is a shame. She should be drowning in D-I offers. She is a physical presence inside who has tremendous footwork and post moves. She relishes the opportunity to defend down low, block some balls into the first few rows and put a body on someone as she secures double-digit rebounds seemingly every game. She isn’t a stiff big who can’t move. Sydni gets up and down the court and has a very, very high motor. Add in the fact that she looks to be a legit 6’2″ who is strong and muscular and I really am at a loss for why she isn’t being recruited by some of the absolute powerhouses in women’s college basketball.
No. 19 – Rachel Avedon Rachel Avedon 5'9" | CG Bishop Kelly | 2022 State OK | 5-9 CG | Bishop Kelley | @imrachelavedon
Rachel is one of those kids who loves basketball and is very good at it. She is also one of those kids who knows what she wants in life and is going to use college to pursue that goal. If she doesn’t get the right offer, she may just go to college and walk on somewhere. That being said, you’d be foolish as a coach not to get in contact and see if you have the right degree programs for her. Avedon is a strong guard who is very fast and physical. She goes hard to the rim and finishes well through contact. She is a great shooter and scores in bunches. She is the absolute difference-maker for her very good team and she could be one for yours.
No. 21 – Journey Armstead Journey Armstead 5'8" | CG Sand Springs | 2022 State OK | 5-8 CG | Sand Springs | @JourneyArmstea1
When you watch Journey play, you can’t help but feel like you are looking at a future Division-I superstar. She may have a few things to improve here and there, but don’t we all? What she does have currently is tremendous raw talent and explosive athleticism. She can jump out of the gym and is never going to be beat when it comes to sheer speed. She has a great jump shot and scores from all levels. At the rim, she finishes strong, almost touching the rim at times as she jumps high above everyone else, even the biggest of the bigs. She has good handles and vision when running the point and really fills up the stat sheet in all areas, including on the defensive end. There is no reason that our No. 21-ranked player should not be awash in college offers right now.
No. 25 – Rees Berkey Rees Berkey 5'10" | SF Hydro-Eakly | 2022 State OK | 5-10 F | Hydro-Eakly | @BerkeyRees
I’m not going to say for sure that this small school star isn’t already committed, but if she isn’t, I don’t know what some of you coaches are doing out there. There isn’t a tournament or event that Rees doesn’t enter that she doesn’t win. MVP of every in-season tournament. Three-point champ of the state playoffs. She does it all. Add in her tremendous size, strength, and all-around basketball IQ and Berkey should be on the radar of every coach in and out of Oklahoma. She is that good. Rees had a double-double in the state finals as her team took home the gold ball and there is a very good chance they will be back there again. Hey, that would be a good time for you to check her out if you are a college coach in need of an absolute star on your team!
