With so many stock risers, we’ve done our best to cover them all. Here’s the next article in a series about the top 2024 stock risers in the Skyland Conference.
Chloe Escanillas – 5-10 SG, Rutgers Prep
Escanillas quickly has found her stride this season for Rutgers Prep and is fitting really well into their overall scheme. She’s an offensive-minded forward who has been pounding the lane game after game, weaving her way into the paint for more scoring opportunities. Escanillas is working on a more complete offensive game as she’s been shooting well from the perimeter. Along with that, her midrange game has given her the opportunity to create more space on the floor. That combination has been her biggest key overall.
Jamaiya Rogers – 5-8 F/G, Bound Brook
Rogers, despite her 5-8 frame, has become one of the best defensive forwards in the Skyland Conference. She’s done a fantastic job at making herself bigger on the floor and take up more space. That’s helped to disrupt opponents, causing bad shots to be taken and more shot-blocking opportunities to come up. Rogers has been a great shot-blocker for Bound Brook and as she’s gone on defense, the team has gone. Don’t overlook her offense either as Rogers is going to be a double-double machine.
Emma Miller – SG, North Hunterdon
Miller is fast becoming a great versatile option for North Hunterdon and we’ve seen her blossom into a starting role this season. She tends to play inside the perimeter and has great dribble-driving ability to get to the basket. However, we’ve seen her expand that range to a midrange game more often. She’s finding herself becoming more of a facilitator as the season progresses, which is a great sign of development. Also, her perimeter defense is virtually unmatched in the conference as her court awareness is getting her in great positions to swipe passes and cause turnovers.
Rachel Castela – SG, Mount St. Mary
There might not be a better three-point shooter in the Skyland Conference than Castela, though there might be some contenders. This shooting guard is the real deal and with averaging over three made three-pointers a game, she’s shooting efficiently and effectively. She shoots effortlessly and makes great use of defensive mismatches. Plus, Castela’s hot spot is virtually anywhere on the perimeter, so if she finds the ball in her hands, there’s a great chance she’s knocking down a three.
Sarah Pettegrove – 5-9 F/G, Voorhees
Pettegrove is the right combination of strength, finesse and speed on the floor for Voorhees and she’s made herself into one of the most effective versatile players in the conference. We’ve seen that through her rebounding, which has come a long way as she’s improved her box-out technique. She’s been much more aggressive attacking the lane on offense. Additional playing time is allowing her to find out what works best in her game and tweak any weaknesses in it. Watch out for her to become a triple-double threat as her passing improves.
Tiffany Pecorella – G, Franklin
While Pecorella has been out the past few games, she’s turning into a great spot-up shooter and is finding her footing for Franklin. We didn’t see much of her as a freshman, but that starter-level time has given her the confidence to make her presence felt on the floor. She’s been most effective as an off-ball perimeter scorer and she’s knocking down three-pointers in bunches for Franklin. More consistency has led to more success for Pecorella.
