Now, we will take a look at the players who have been under the radar but are poised to make their names known and have played well for their teams this season.
Aleena Rodriguez 5’7 SG
Eunice HS
Aleena Rodriguez has had a good start to her high school career and is just getting started. She has hit 29 three-point shots so far this year which would rank her 4th in the state. She has contributed on the boards as well pulling down 49 and dishing out 23 assists. Look for Rodriguez to continue to make people take notice of her play.
Alexis Pacheco 5’5 Guard
Las Vegas Robertson HS
Alexis Pacheco has done well in helping her team to a 14 -1 record as the Lady Cardinals are a serious contender to win a 3A state title. Pacheco is doing a little of everything for her team averaging 10 points 5 rebounds 5 assists and 3 steals.
Catalina Anaya 5’4 Guard
St. Pius HS
Catalina Anaya has been impressive with her tenacious defense. Her energy stands out on the court and she has had multiple games with 5 plus steals that lead to easy layups. Her quickness allows her to get to the bucket and also draw fouls as she recently went 6 for 7 from the line. A good rebounder for her size as she seems to find the ball on backside rebounds and missed shots.
Aubrey Jaramillo 5’2 PG
Cleveland HS
Aubrey Jaramillo has done a good job handling the ball. Her quickness and change of direction off the dribble make her tough to stay in front of. Aubrey has shown the ability to hit from deep with multiple games of 3 plus makes making her a valuable piece to her team.
Mila Espinoza 5’4 SG
Volcano Vista HS
Mila Espinoza is the only freshman on a loaded Hawks team that is looking to defend their 5A state title win last year. She has shown the ability to come off the bench for this senior-heavy team and contribute. During the Albuquerque Metro tournament championship last week she scored a total of 23 points over the four games played.
Amariah Valles 5’4 PG
Albuquerque HS
Amariah Valles has shown to be a good floor general for the Bulldogs. Her strong handles and court vision helps to get her teammates good looks. Amariah has a nice pull-up midrange game off the dribble as well.
