The 6th region has a lot of talent and because of that, some players do not get discussed as much as they probably should, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t been dominating all season long. Opponents definitely cannot sleep on these players, but whether it’s due to being on a team with multiple Division I players, being at a smaller school, or anything in between, there are some really good players that deserve to be highlighted for everything they’ve accomplished for their teams this season.
Alyssa Murphy Alyssa Murphy 5'5" | PG Corydon Central | 2025 State IN | Freshman | PG | Mercy
Murphy is an elite point guard who handles the ball like a seasoned veteran. She has a great basketball IQ and can score in a variety of ways. Really just a solid player all-around. If you watch Mercy play, the freshman is definitely going to catch your eye. She is on a squad with a lot of talent, so I feel she really just deserves more credit for how talented she truly is and that is why she made her way onto this list.
Ashlinn James Ashlinn James 5'9" | PG DuPont Manual | 2026 State KY | 8th Grade | PG | Jeffersontown
James is an absolute stud. She may be in middle school, but you can already see that she is going to be one of the best players in the state for years to come. She’s so smooth and everything just seems so natural for her. She moves and makes moves that make you constantly question how she can possibly still be in middle school. Step back 3s, drives, pull-ups, floaters, you name it and she can score it. Her handles, fakes, and passes are truly elite for her age. She’s really an impressive player and it’s crazy to think about how good she could be by the end of her high school career.
Lilly Reid Lilly Reid 5'6" | PG Bullitt East | 2023 State KY | Junior | PG | Bullitt East
Reid plays alongside 2 of the top seniors in Kentucky, Gracie Merkle Gracie Merkle 6'6" | C Bullitt East | 2022 State KY and Emma Egan Emma Egan 5'8" | SF Bullitt East | 2022 State KY , and their performances often lead to them being the 2 players highlighted for the Chargers, but that doesn’t mean Reid’s performances haven’t also been very impressive this season. She is a really good ball handler, has great hands, and is a really solid point guard. The lefty has the ability to score in a lot of ways, but she’s always looking to make plays for her teammates first and foremost.
Emma Barnett Emma Barnett 6'2" | PF Mercy | 2023 State KY | Junior | C | Mercy
Emma Barnett Emma Barnett 6'2" | PF Mercy | 2023 State KY has great size and athleticism. She is really an underdiscussed talent, but the junior is impressive. Makes really good moves inside but can also stretch the defense and shoot the ball from deep. Defensively, she moves well and is an extremely talented shot blocker.
Keziah Renee’ Keziah Renee’ 5'7" | CG Jeffersonville | 2026 State IN | 8th Grade | CG | Fern Creek
This is another player who has not yet started high school but is dominating at the high school level. Renee has great hands and the ability to put the ball in the basket in multiple different ways. Strong handles and shoots the 3 at a high percentage, especially for a player who is only in the 8th grade.
Allison Spieker Allison Spieker 5'8" | SG Whitefield Academy | 2024 State KY , Camryn Poole Camryn Poole 5'7" | PG Whitefield Academy | 2023 State KY , Sara Ritter, and Amy Thompson Amy Thompson 6'1" | SF Whitefield Academy | 2023 State KY | Whitefield Academy
I had to mention 4 players for Whitefield because they are really doing big things this season. Individually, they are all good players, but the way they play together is what I found very impressive. Each of these 4 players are averaging double figures and have helped lead their team to a 14-5 start. They really work hard every second they are on the floor and I just love watching a team that seems to play for one another over themselves.
