To me, C-team players are just as important as Varsity players. I know that some would disagree with this but not me. They may not be some top prospect at the time being but that could change. You never know when a player is going to develop and improve their skills dramatically. Height, weight, strength and overall ability can change quickly with the right training. Pushing younger players and showing them care is the only way to keep them going. They need a spark and know that someone cares about how hard they are pushing to become better. Steph Curry only had 3 offers coming out of high school and look at him now. Everyone deserves a chance.
Isabel Roberts #14 – PG/SG – El Dorado Eagles
Isabel is a technically sound player that communicates very well on the Basketball floor. She is a feisty rebounder for being a guard and learns from her mistakes. She told me that she never blames her teammates about anything. I saw her working hard to get open for her teammates to find her in transition. She was successful getting open many times and also was able to find her teammates conversely when needed. To me, Isabel’s best attribute was easily her stamina. She pretty much played max minutes and didn’t look very tired out there. She could be a floor leader with the right training. I was very pleased with her happy and loose personality.
Madelin Quintana #5 – SG/SF – El Dorado Eagles
When I spoke to Madelin, she says she loves to give 110% on every play and in practice. She also said that she loves to be super aggressive on defense which is what I saw when I went to see her go play. She can cause turnovers and get steals on the defense end. She can also throw long range passes if needed. A poised player that can command the offense and call plays. I saw her grab a tough rebound in the 3rd quarter which impressed me. This player stands tall on defense and can get much better with the right training.
Riley Jaramillo #44 – PF – El Dorado Eagles
Riley is a fierce competitor who just does not give up on defensive plays. I saw her working extremely hard and saw her get a nice block in the 3rd quarter with her hands up. She had a few nice offensive rebounds and she looks to attack the hoop when she gets the ball. Strength and having no quit in her are her best attributes at this point. I saw her as a possible excellent spark player probably off the bench. Her energy could change a game with great bursts of energy here and there. She is young so she has time to develop but the hustle, grit and intensity were there.
Sidneyanne Becenti #40 – PF/C – Dulce Hawks
Named captain of her team, Becenti is a leader and when I saw her play, she put up 17 points and 4 blocks in her game. Most of her points came in the paint and on some nice post moves. In my notes, I wrote that she had some nice spin moves in the paint and was able to grab offensive boards without fouling. A lot of those offensive boards led to put back baskets. She will use the backboard if needed. Fights like a warrior till the end of a play like a boxer who just won’t quit. The blocks she made on defense were very impressive to me. She could definitely be a force in the paint for some team.
