PA announcer Steve Lessman, the DJ, & the players kept the crowd locked in from morning to night. Each game had two MVPs regardless of what the scoreboard showed. The girls came out, competed, and put on a show!
Below are my selections for Second Team All-Shootout and the “6th Woman” of Day 1
2023 Maureen Regan | 5’4 Combo Guard | Saint Ignatius
Reagan plays bigger than programs lists her. She’s a shifty guard who seems to be in the right place at the right time… all the time, offensively and defensively. High IQ (both sides), superb court vision, and the pinpoint passing ability to lead her team to where they need to be. She can attack the rim in multiple ways, from off the dribble, coast to coast, or off receiving a pass off the fast break. At the rim, she can finish with both hands and through contact. Her three-point shot is money as well, and she showed that on Day 1, as she went 3/4 from the arc. Her skillset is built to be effective and efficient at all aspects of the game. Maureen finished the night with 17 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals in a strong win against Plainfield Central
2022 Kira Chivers Kira Chivers 5'3" | PG Marist | 2022 State IL | 5’3 Combo Guard | Marist
Easily the fastest & quickest player on the court… no matter who the opponent is. She can make plays and score from all angles of the floor. She makes precise passes and is always looking to set her team up for easy buckets. Offensively, she can do so much and is rarely stopped. When she attacks the basket, she’s aggressive as you can be. She picks and chooses her spots, which translates to great efficiency. On the other side, she’s a pest on the ball, in the gaps, and just causes issues for the entire offense. Against York, she capped off her name 3 steals, 6 assists, and 14 points (6/10 from the field).
2022 Brianna Wooldridge Brianna Wooldridge 6'2" | PF Fremd | 2022 State IL | 6’2 Stretch Post | Fremd *PLAYER OF THE GAME*
Versatile as can be. The IUPUI commit hasn’t lost a step. She’s a problem at every level of the game. In the post…her strength, footwork, and patience are undeniable. Coming off the perimeter, she has a quick twitch and toughness that allows her to finish through or around contact. On the arc, the lefty has the confidence to pull and shoot from any spot. In the blowout win against Phillips, Brianna finished as the top scorer and rebounder for the night. 16 points & 5 rebounds.
2023 Josie Canellis | 5’7 Guard | Carl Sandburg *PLAYER OF THE GAME*
Josie shows the effort and motor to play everywhere and anywhere on the court. On the offensive side of the ball, her main weapon is the three-ball… and she can go off for 5+ on any given night. The release she has is quick and needs no loading time. Her confidence behind the arc is high and never seems to leave. Josie can also finish at the rim if the longball isn’t falling… which is rare. Defensively, her wingspan allows her to be an issue on that side as well. Jumps passing lanes and can stay on the ball. All these skills were needed as she helped her team to a comeback win over DGN. She put up 11 in the 3rd quarter alone with 3 threes. Ending the night with 17 points (4 threes), 5 rebounds, and 2 steals.
2022 Mary Clare Brusek | 6’0 Wing | Marist
Though basketball is her second sport, the WMU Volleyball commit is a walking double-double on any night. She’s tough on the boards and always finds her way to the spots. She does most of the work in the midrange and or paint area and she’s just physical as can be. She’s skilled enough to put an impact on the game from both sides of the ball and also can facilitate when needed. Brusek is just a true athlete and it shows from start to finish on the court. Finished off the night with 11 points, 7 boards, and 4 assists. The win was by committee but her contribution was more than needed.
6th Woman
2025 Kaitlyn Sedillo Kaitlyn Sedillo 5'7" | PG Plainfield North | 2025 State IL | 5’5 Guard | Plainfield North
The last game of the day was up and down for Plainfield North. Multiple times the game was cut close, but when they started to pull away in the 4th, there was one player who was the head of that. Sedillo went off for 11 in the last 8 minutes. In 11 minutes, Kaitlyn put up 13.. 4-7 from the FG and 3-4 from the arc. Her ability and confidence to shoot the ball from the three no matter whos around or near her is something to see. Off the dribble she can do it all as well, flashy isn’t her game but she gets to where she needs to put the ball in the bucket. The freshman is starting to come into her own and the skillset will continue to improve over time.
