The CHEF Arrows (10-3) used a 25-4 opening stanza to run away from the Titans and never looked back; finishing 50-34 victors. In the second game of the morning session, Checotah (2-8) lost a close one to Star-Spencer (3-6) after a late would-be tying three-pointer came up just short – final score: 41-38.
In the first “late game,” Tulsa Central (5-3) squared up with Harrah (5-5) in a battle of two very well-coached squads. It took a big fourth quarter by the Harrah Panthers to put away Central by a score of 44-37. In the nightcap, host team Skiatook (2-8) defeated Berryhill (2-6) by a score of 46-35.
Standouts
Heaven Smith Heaven Smith 5'6" | PG Kipp Tulsa | 2024 State OK | 5-4 PG | Tulsa CHEF | 2024 | @Heaven17645888
Heaven is our No. 20-ranked sophomore in the state for a reason. She is a bouncy, very athletic scorer who is most definitely not limited to just scoring. Smith has great handles and runs the point with precision, passing the ball all over the court with great vision and an impressive ability to read the defense. Heaven has the talent and scoring ability to be a Division-I guard, whether her height will limit her in that aspect remains to be seen – of course, we all know it shouldn’t.
Eimeya Galloway | 5-11 F | McClain | 2022 | @meyadadon
I got to see Eimeya play twice this week and came away truly impressed both times. McClain only has eight players on the roster and hasn’t had but two bench players each time I’ve watched them meaning that Galloway is expected to play every single minute. She is a big who battles hard down low and never tires, consistently getting up and down the court when others around her are struggling. She gets rebounds, fights hard in the post, and can also step out and hit the three which she did in both games that I saw. Eimeya would be a great three in college who could cause all kinds of mismatch nightmares for opponents.
Aiyana Brewer | 5-10 F | Checotah | 2025 | @AiyanaBrewer
Brewer could be seen at times in her team’s game with Star-Spencer yelling for her teammates to clear the paint and give her the ball. This is a freshman. By the way, she was going against a tremendous post who was taller than her and a very, very good prospect in her own right. She was unafraid and for good reason. Her 17 points led her team by a large margin and she was almost unstoppable for long stretches of the game. She played great defense against several different post players and was very coachable. Brewer looks like a really good prospect who will definitely be debuting in the next iteration of the 2025 rankings!
Shaniya Wiley | 5-9 G | Star-Spencer | 2023 | Hudl
Shaniya was on fire from long range in her team’s match-up with Checotah and led all scorers with 19 points. She most definitely is not just a scorer, however. She forced several five seconds closely guarded calls against her opponent as she used great footwork and long arms to ensnare the ballhandler and trap them with no recourse. Wiley is a wily – pun intended – defender and should definitely be recruited by a school who values buckets – all of them – and defense – hopefully also all of them.
Jayla Flient Jayla Flient 6'2" | C Choctaw | 2023 State OK | 6-2 F/C | Star-Spencer | 2023 | @JaylaFlient
Jayla is way more than just a big body in the middle. She is a shot-swatter and more importantly a shot changer. You have to think twice about entering her lane. She relishes the chance to battle down low. She has good enough handles to bring the ball up the court as needed and has the coach’s confidence to do so. Flient is a high IQ player who makes the best play for the team at the right time and looks to be a great teammate as well. Word is that Jayla is also a great volleyball player and has the skill to play both at the college level. She definitely would like the opportunity.
Lauren Lisby Lauren Lisby 5'5" | PG Hannah | 2023 State OK | 5-6 G | Harrah | 2023 | Hudl
Lisby was all of her team’s scoring in the first quarter with seven of her total 13 coming in the opening stanza. She scores from long and midrange with a nice fluid stroke that she releases rapidly making it almost unblockable. Lauren is a good defender and worked hard all game. In fact, I’m not sure she didn’t play every minute for her squad. She is a hard worker who does everything she can to ensure her team wins the game; which is exactly what happened tonight.
Adrianna Brinkley | 5-5 G | Tulsa Central | 2022 | @AdriannaBrinkl2
Speaking of a player getting all of their team’s points in a quarter, Adrianna did the same in the first quarter for Central. She also totaled 13 and scored four of them in the first period. Brinkley can definitely shoot it, but better than that is her ability to finish inside at some very tough angles. The tendency for players at this level is to trail away from the backboard as they drive to the hoop in order to avoid contact. That is not the case with Adrianna. She can shift and gyrate into a position that not only gets the ball in the basket but more often than not gets the contact and the free throw, as well.
Baylee Mooney | 5-10 G | Harrah | 2023 | @bayleemooney11
I’ve seen Baylee play in the summer, but seeing her do it on the high school stage means a lot. She doesn’t bow to the pressure and she also can fight through adversity when not surrounded by an all-star team and while facing a squad who more than likely game planned for her. She is a long guard with great handles who can run the point and because of her size, she is able to flash into the paint as needed. She grabs a lot of rebounds and can immediately push the ball herself allowing for a unique style of offense that definitely benefits her Harrah squad. Mooney is a college player. There is no doubt. At this point, I would say high Division-II, but there is definitely the possibility that she plays Division-I by the time all is said and done.
Montay Davis Montay Davis 5'6" | CG Tulsa Central | 2024 State OK | 5-8 G | Tulsa Central | 2024 | @MontayDavis1
Montay has come a long way since we ranked her No. 75 in the class of 2024. The game seems to have slowed down for her and she is seeing the floor very well. She is a smart PG who is trusted to do a lot for Central and she is coming through. She hits from long range. She is a very fast slasher with good handles. She is a smart defender who forces a lot of turnovers either by pressuring her opponent into mistakes or just straight-up stealing the ball. Davis is going to move up in the rankings without a doubt and she most definitely deserves it!
Gracie Alexander | 5-7 G | Berryhill | 2022 | Hudl
I wrote a note in my book early in the game saying that Gracie drives HARD to the basket. That never wavered. She has no concern for her well-being or that of anybody else in her way – in a controlled manner, I should add. When she wants to get to the rim, don’t get in her way. So, she’s just a slasher? Nope. She can shoot it, too – to the tune of 17 points with three three-pointers. Alexander is a pure scorer and I know you coaches need those on your team. She’s a senior. Get to Berryhill and see for yourself!
Rylee Anglen | 5-4 G | Skiatook | 2022 | @pnut1304
Speaking of senior guards that can fill it up from long range, nobody today in Skiatook had more points than Rylee. She finished the game with 22 including three three-pointers. She can seriously shoot it. She has good handles and runs the point with a fourth-year player’s confidence. Anglen passes the ball with intention and rarely turns it over. Unfortunately for coaches – and the game of basketball – Rylee is already committed to Central Oklahoma to play softball, though I guess if head coach Guy Hardaker ever needed a scoring guard, he can head out to the diamond and grab one.
