Here is look at some of the top standouts from the Lawson Tournament.
Jessica Reeter (Chillicothe): The 5’5″ 2023 guard was the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament after leading the Hornets to the tournament championship. She’s an excellent point guard who plays with her own tempo and will not get sped up. Her court vision is very good and she can also knock down the open 3-pointer.
Jolie Bonderer (Chillicothe): A 5’9″ 2024 forward who earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team after helping the Hornets to the championship. She is a strong inside player who is very mobile around the basket. She is a very good finisher inside who also gets on the offensive boards.
Josie Roach (North Platte): A 5’9″ 2022 guard who displayed a versatile all-around game. She is the team’s primary ball handler and playmaker with her passing skills. She can also go inside and score and rebound effectively. She could get into the gaps of the zone defense on the dribble to go along with a nice pull up jumper from the mid-range.
Kinley Wilkins (Lawson): The 5’8″ 2023 forward earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team after leading the Cardinals to a third-place finish in the tournament. The lefty is a very active player with a high motor. I was impressed with how she crashed the boards out of her area. She plays much taller than her actual height with her toughness and athletic ability.
Gracie Fine (Lawson): A 2023 forward who earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team after helping lead her team to a third-place finish. She was a very good free throw shooter, which is good for someone who plays inside. She gets good post position and she finishes well by keeping the ball up high. She is also a good secondary ball handler against pressure defense as she makes good decisions with the ball.
Julia Pattison (West Platte): The 2024 guard is a standout runner on the cross country team and it shows on the basketball court because she is always running and pushing the ball at a nice pace. She had some good coast to coast rushes for layups, some which were started by her own steals from darting into the passing lanes.
