Continue ReadingWith the basketball season still young and about 1/3 of the way over already, we’ll start the new year off right with some of the top performers from the Western Dakota Athletic Conference. We’ll showcase 5 superstars that are leading the way in the scoring margin and whose set to take the crown towards the end of the year in being named scoring champion.
Amya Gourneau – TMCHS – (5’8/SF/2023) – Amya has transformed even more from last year to this. She currently leads the WDA in the scoring race by a .2 margin just ahead of last years scoring champion Logan Nissley Logan Nissley 6'0" | CG Bismarck Century | 2023 State ND . Amya is averaging 22 points a game shooting 37.8 percent from beyond the arc and 65.2 percent from the charity line. As impressive as her scoring as she currently leads the WDA in assists per game at a whopping 5.8. Amya season-high so far is 34 points against Bismarck Century.
Logan Nissley Logan Nissley 6'0" | CG Bismarck Century | 2023 State ND – Century – (6’0/SF/2023) – Nissley is no stranger to the big stage. The returning scoring champion from last year and reigning state champion team are back for the crown the again. Currently Logan is averaging 21.8 points per game shooting a high 57.5 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from beyond the arc. Nissley can flat out score the ball. Her season high this year is 30 against Dickinson in a game where she shot 73.3 percent from the field. Do I dare say you have to put a hand up and contest?
Maggie Fricke Maggie Fricke 5'7" | PG Minot | 2025 ND – Minot – (5’7/SG/2026) – The only 8th grader on this list Maggie Fricke Maggie Fricke 5'7" | PG Minot | 2025 ND is a walking breathing bucket! Currently this year she’s averaging 19.8 points per game shooting 46.3 percent from the field and leading the WDA in 3 point percentage with 51.5 percent. With stat lines like this it makes you question if this is an 8th grader or 8th year senior. Her season high this year is 30 against a pesky Mandan team where she shot 14-16 from the charity strike. If Fricke doesn’t take the scoring crown this year she for sure is going to be a fan favorite come next year.
Peyton Neumiller Peyton Neumiller 5'10" | SG Bismarck High | 2023 State ND – Bismarck High – (5’10/SG/2023) – Neumiller is another player that is no stranger to the lime light. She’s without a doubt Bismarck Highs go to player when they need a bucket. Currently Neumiller is averaging 19.3 points per game shooting 39.4 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from beyond the arc. I think I speak for everyone when I say we’d like to see that FG% spike up with smarter shot selections on Neumillers part. Regardless she’s a player that can get the job done come late in the shot clock and excels on the defensive side of the court coming in 2nd in the steals category just behind Maggie Fricke Maggie Fricke 5'7" | PG Minot | 2025 ND averaging 4 per game.
Bergan Kinnebrew Bergan Kinnebrew 5'11" | CG Bismarck Century | 2023 State ND – Century – (5’11/SG/2023) – Bergan is a new addition to our list. She didn’t stand too far out of the crowd last year and was a solid role player for the Patriots in last years title run averaging around 7.7 points per game. It’s clear this year that she’s found a new role as that number has sky rocketed to 18.3 points per game. Kinnebrew is shooting at a solid 56% from the field and a healthy 88% from the charity strike. When people talk about a glow up this is exactly it! With contributions like this and a healthy bunch of solid returners for patriots could their be a repeat champion in the mix?
