Madelyn Lawson Madelyn Lawson 5'8" | SG Dixie Heights | 2022 State KY – ’22 5’10″/SG – Dixie Heights
Lawson has made 63 free throws at 72% shooting on the season and went to the line 17 times in the 2nd game of this tournament. She has confidence at the line and let’s just say that she knows how to draw fouls, shall we? She is averaging 18.6 points and 8 rebounds per game while making 43.8% of her threes. I saw her drop 14 points and grab 9 rebounds in what I expect is a very typical and stellar performance.
She drove across the lane to kick out an assist for a corner three, penetrated from the top to kick to the left wing for another assist, and made another in transition for a layup. She scored in the post and took a charge. If she isn’t already signed you better sign her, Coach.
Ella Steczynski Ella Steczynski 5'8" | SG Dixie Heights | 2023 State KY – ’23 5’8″/SG – Dixie Heights
Steczynski is a great shooter on a team of many great shooters averaging 49.4% from the three-point line and 11.5 points per game. She made 11 points off 3 for 3 threes when I was there and scored a layup on a steal 3.4 court.
Coralee Pelfrey Coralee Pelfrey PG Dixie Heights | 2026 State KY – ’26 5’9″/SF – Dixie Heights
Pelfrey is making 35;7% of her three-point shots on the season and averaging 7.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, She put up 10 points, and 5 rebounds when I was there. She scored on a layup in transition, threes from both wings, a 14 footer shot in transition, and made an impressive block at full extension.
Samantha Berman – ’23 5’8″/CG – Dixie Heights
Averaging 12.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, while making 32.8% from three and 66.7% free throws, Berman scored 16 points on game day and 14 points during the tournament. She ran the floor for a rebound putback, a 6 footer jumper while on the move, and made an assist for a three-pointer.
Reese Smith – ’23 5’7″/SG – Dixie Heights
Smith is averaging 53.3% of her threes on the year 70.6% at the foul line and 11.3 points per game. She hit those same totals when I was there, netting 11 points and 1 of 2 threes. She made a 10 footer from the wing, a 3-foot turnaround jumper in the post, a penetration/spin move for a left-handed free-throw line jumper, and made an assist kick to the corner after penetration.
And THIS was in my notes: “block runs the floor oppo rips it low before layup/block”
I have no idea what that means… but it sounds like it was a great play so I included it anyway.
Kylee Shannon – ’23 5’8″/SF – Jackson County
Shannon went for 8 points, 3 rebounds, and averaged 9.7 points in the tournament. For the season she is putting 13 points, 8.2 rebounds per game and I just discovered today via scouring the KHSAA website that she is 19th in the state in Field Goal percentage at 58.5%. It is amazing what you can find (and cannot find) on that website. I didn’t know where to find that until an hour ago.
She scored off a dump-down pass posted deep in the lane, a 2 footer from a short assist, and a cross-court pass for a layup. She also made an unselfish pass for an assist on the break.
Natalie Carl – ’22 5’5″/PG – Jackson County
Carl scored 6 points against one of the best defenses (and best Point Guards) in the state and is averaging 8.4 points on the season while making 32,5% of her three-point shots. She scored in the post with a fundamental catch/turn/shoot move, finished a layup through contact, and made the following free throw.
But what she did best was handling the pressure of one of the best full course presses in the Commonwealth. She made an assist to a teammate running the floor for layup, a cross-post bounce pass for an assist, and a penetrate and kick assist to the opposite wing for a three.
Jaliyah Bailey – ’24 5’11″/C – Warren Central
Bailey scored 12 points, hauled in 11 rebounds, and made 3 of 4 free throws. She scored through contact in the post and through contact on a rebound putback and made the following free throw.
Kenedee Robinson – ’23 5’7″/SG – Warren Central
Robinson tallied 12 points, 3 rebounds, and made 2 of 2 threes. She made three from the right wing, an 8-foot pull-up jumper, and a curling drive for a layup.
Jordyn Downey – ’23 5’4″/SG – Warren Central
Downey scored 11 points, grabbed 2 rebounds, and made 5 of 6 free throws. She made a 16 footer from the left corner and was fouled squeezing a 10 footer through two defenders. She made the shot but the foul preceded it.
Defensively, she tipped a pass to steal it at free throw line extended and took it in for a layup
