These are players that may be more valuable to their team or more skilled than a lot of people realize. These athletes may not be as noticed as they probably deserve. That being said, let’s give some under the radar players in Michigan the publicity that they should be getting. These will all be players that have recently contributed heavily to their team’s victories.
Ella Castelucci (2022, SG, Edwardsburg)
Castelucci was key in Edwardsburg’s win over Concord. She had 11 points and 5 steals on the night. Castelucci has been key in her team’s terrific start to the season. She’s been a consistent double digit scorer and has been very effective in the open floor. Catelucci turns and hustles down the floor beating the defense back and finishing with her left hand.
Erishea Chambers-Jones (2023, PG, Detroit Southeastern)
Chambers-Jones was solid in a 38-10 victory against Detroit CMA. She finished with a game high 12 points. Chambers-Jones, in my opinion, has been underrated for years and deserves to be a ranked player. Chambers-Jones is Southeastern’s go to player and has responded well playing in that role.
Aaniyah Jordan (2023, PG, Roseville)
Jordan played a big role in Roseville’s 42-28 victory against Warren Fitzgerald. She finished the game with 12 points and 8 steals. Jordan has been getting it done all season long on the defensive end. She can get in the face of her defender and uses her quick feet and eye for the ball to snag steals. By my count, Jordan has over 30 steals on the season already.
Peyton Sam (2024, PF, L’Anse Creuse North)
Sam played big in a 64-21 win over Romeo. She was her team’s second leading scorer with 10 points and also grabbed 7 rebounds in the game. Sam is a scrappy hustle player, especially on the defensive end. She can create turnovers with her aggressive D and seems to love to hit the floor for a loose ball.
Marissa Tocco (2022, SG, Macomb Dakota)
Tocco was excellent in her team’s 60-29 win against Birmingham Seaholm. She finished the night with 16 points and 4 steals. Tocco is a terrific guard that can score at a high level. Tocco is talented enough to play at the next level and should look for herself to be ranked on the next update to the list.
