Post players are the anchor on defense, dominate the boards and create scoring opportunities for teammates by setting screens and knowing how to pass out of double teams. Let’s take a look at some of the players this week who have been integral to the success of their team.
Caroline Shimp Caroline Shimp 5'11" | SF Robinson | 2023 State VA -2023-Robinson
Caroline is a force in the paint on both ends of the court. A tenacious rebounder who fights for positioning in the paint. Shimp makes herself a target offensively with wide base and good positioning. She has a nice foundation of post moves, cuts to the basket from high post and finishes through contact. She can also step out to the 3pt line, utilizes nice ball fakes and rip throughs to score off the bounce.
Asante Brown-2022-Manor
This kid is a double double machine. A workhorse who leaves it all on the court. Don’t be fooled by her size, she outworks and out muscles taller players nightly. She is athletic, strong body and gives everything she has on the court. Finishes through contact, quick off the floor for offensive boards and consistent at the stripe. Her agility and athleticism allow her to guard multiple positions on the court, she creates turnovers reading the passing lanes and is physical enough to bang in the post. Her game fits into any system, unselfish and provides whatever her team needs to win.
Navy commit had a monster game against Steward, she dominated in the paint on both ends of the court. She was the difference maker in a close game until St. Gertrude opened up a big lead in the 4th. Kate grabbed every rebound within reach, she scored on put backs and post-ups. Kate finished the game with a 23pts, 20 boards and multiple blocks.
Allyson Fleenor-2022-Pulaski County High School
Senior leader for a talented Pulaski team with a 12-3 record. Enthusiastic player whose joy for the game spreads to her teammates. She is deceptively quick getting to the basket, has a nice array of post moves and can shoot out to the 3pt line. She scored effortlessly this week, put up 17 in a win against talented Patrick Henry-Roanoke and another double digit night in a lop sided victory. She initiates the fast break with pin-point outlet passes, when not doing that she is running the floor hard scoring through contact in paint. Allyson is committed to UVA-Wise.
Kyla Abraham-2022-Smithfield
Scored 25pts in a solid win over Poquoson. High motor, 6’5 defensive nightmare. Kyla alters shots in the paint, elite shot blocker and is agile enough to guard out to the perimeter. She runs rim to rim, nice touch around the basket. Kyla gets position in the post and has a nice turn around jumper. Already putting up good offensive numbers, she still has plenty of room to expand her offense game. Her best basketball is ahead of her, look for her next year at Baylor.
