Saline is one of those schools. While some people may be disappointed with a lack of food options, I say: “Who needs them?” If you go to a Saline girls basketball game this year, I promise you one thing, you WILL be entertained. You may want that popcorn or M&M’s, but trust me, there will be enough entertainment without them. When you have a 1-2 punch like Kate Stemmer Kate Stemmer 5'6" | SG Saline | 2024 State MI and Sophie Canen Sophie Canen 5'9" | SG Saline | 2022 State MI , their highlights will be more than enough to make up for the lack of snacks and pops.

I’d choose to watch Canen’s scoring acumen, with or without the bag of chips. This talented 2 guard showed her shot making ability this summer, but so far with Saline, she’s taken it even further. Just in the last week, I recall a 26 point game and a 33 point game. The Hope College commit has shown poise and control on the offensive end. She calmly and easily reacts to what the defense gives her and executes seemingly ever time. If the offensive explosion this season wasn’t enough, Canen has shown a ton of improvement on the defensive end. She’s become a high quality 2 way player that has a nose for the ball and does an excellent job anticipating the offensive move and stepping in passing lanes. Canen has created a lot of turnovers this year, as evidenced by a recent 10 steal game.

I don’t want to mess around with a candy bar and miss a minute of action from Stemmer. Quite simply, she has talent for days. I’m talking elite level talent. This basketball class in Michigan looks absolutely loaded and a number 22 ranking puts her in some top notch company. Stemmer has been critical to Saline’s excellent (and undefeated) first portion of the season. She’s shown a well rounded game, reaching all over the stat sheets at the end of games. This shows the well rounded game that Stemmer has, which allows her to always find a way to have an influence and put her stamp on the game. Stemmer can play at any pace, showing good body control when finishing in transition. She has looked very comfortable with her jumper, especially off a catch and shoot. I don’t think a cap can be put on what Stemmer and Saline are capable of this year.
