2022: 6A Playoff X factors
In this article:
As the season concludes to an end and the playoffs are just weeks away, we wanted to bring you 6A players who we feel are the keys to their team making a run for state.
Maryn Archer Maryn Archer 5'8" | PG Derby | 2023 #29 Nation KS – She made a lot of noise early on and committed to the University of Arkansas but ever since then it seems like people forgot all about her. Maryn is a physical, shifty, crafty guard that can defend and light it up every night on both ends of the floor. Her ability to be physical when driving, shoot the 3 with the addition of her mid-range game is just one of the many reasons she’s headed to Arkansas. Archer is averaging 10.8ppg, 4.8 assists, and 3.6 steals per game. One of the most well-rounded versatile guards will look to lead her loaded derby team to the state championship.
Mckenzie Edwards (Pictured)- The northwest guard has a huge opportunity this year to help pull off some upsets this year. Only a sophomore and being smaller, her aggressiveness and tenacity will set her apart from most players. With how small and quick Kenzie is she has a real knack for the ball on the defensive end helping her team come away with steals and blocks. On the offensive end, she’s tough to guard because she can stretch the floor shooting the 3, or she can get to the rim making plays for others. Bright future for the grizzlies with how young they are under coach Myers.
Tatem Adair Tatem Adair 5'2" | PG Wichita Southeast | 2022 State KS – The 5ft guard for southeast high school may be small but she doesn’t lack the swagger and confidence. Tatem is able to slice and dice the defense no matter if you are in a press, zone, or just regular man. Her confidence and swagger are some of the first things you’ll notice and something you can’t gameplan for. She has the ability to shoot the ball from the 3 and pressure your best guards when she is on defense. What is most impressive for Tatem is how she doesn’t turn the ball over no matter the game situation.
Tiana Winn Tiana Winn 6'0" | SF Wichita East | 2022 State KS – The forward who recently signed to Seward will be the key to east high making noise in the postseason. With her length and athleticism, it is one of the missing pieces that east needs to make some noise in the playoffs. Tiana has the ability to contest everything at the rim and even block shots. She is a good rebounder which is what will be needed to give teams one-and-done opportunities to secure the defensive stop. She has a soft touch and the ability to shoot the mid-range jumper to help the aces on the offensive end. If she is able to score from the block to mix it up with post moves and bring the tenacity and energy that east needs, they will be able to make a run in the postseason. The sky is the limit for her and I think Seward sees that as well.
Lily Kovalcik Lily Kovalcik 5'7" | SG Shawnee Mission South | 2022 State KS – The guard from Shawnee mission south is a senior that is looking to finish her season off on the right note! She’s coming out this season shooting it from 3 with any space the defense gives her. Lily has shown she can catch and shoot or she can make plays for her teammates. Don’t fall asleep on her on the defensive side, she’s looking to be aggressive out of that press they have been putting on teams. Lily is our X factor for Shawnee mission south to make a big run in the playoffs.
