The 2023 rankings were updated today. Check out some new names added to the guard position.

[player_tooltip player_id="385123" first="Destinee" last="Barnes"] | Winston Salem Christian

Barnes (pictured above) does everything a coach wants a guard to do from handling the ball as the floor general, driving hard to the basket protecting the rock, and knocking down shots from deep. Defenders can think they have the floor well covered, but she finds a way to get into the openings to score. She can change speeds or throw in a hesitation move to get by her opponents. She moves well without the ball, too, making sure she is ready to catch the pass and shoot.

[player_tooltip player_id="385132" first="Anna" last="Taylor"] | Princeton

Taylor has quickly put herself on the map with her three point shooting. She's scored 45 points in one game hitting 10 three pointers at that time. She's averaging over 15 points a game this year, and her ability to contribute on even more than those points with her assists is fun to watch. Her IQ is on display on the defensive end of the ball finding ways to jump into passing lanes and grab the steal.

[player_tooltip player_id="385147" first="Ariana" last="Perry"] | Cox Mill

Perry uses her speed to jump into passing lanes and take the other direction for some fast break points. She stays calm even when moving at high speeds, and she knows when to slow things down to let her team catch up to her. She can certainly step back and knock down a three pointer off the dribble or a pass. The timing of her moves with the ball makes it difficult for opponents to guess what she will do next. On both ends of the court, she doesn't hesitate when it comes to going after loose balls.

[player_tooltip player_id="385169" first="Paris" last="Webster"] | Athens Drive

Webster has a way of making the floor bigger just for her to get to the hoop finding the openings with nice moves, especially ones that can put her opponents on the spin cycle. She shrinks the court on defense finding ways to pick the pocket of her opponents taking away the possession for her own. While she's averaging over 10 points a game, what I think is more impressive is the fact that she's averaging almost 5 assists and 5 steals a game, too.

[player_tooltip player_id="385172" first="Victoria" last="Sagne"] | Apex Friendship

Sagne is a lengthy guard that causes problems for her opponents on defense. She can guard all positions on the court finding ways to jump in front of passes to grab the steal or use her long arms to knock the ball away from someone trying to dribble by her. Her height comes in handy on the offensive side of the ball as she is able to shoot over her opponents, and she can shoot well from all areas of the court.

[player_tooltip player_id="387334" first="Joselin" last="Turner"] | Hickory

Turner doesn't seem to back down whether someone is trying to drive the ball right towards her or a defender is trying to close out on her shot. She does well shooting behind the arc even with those defenders in her face. Her ball handling is fun to watch as she can take it coast to coast using hesitation moves to get to the hoop. She is quick on defense knocking the ball out of passing lanes to derail her opponents' offensive dreams or even block shots with ease.
