Playoffs 2022: 5A Teams To Watch
In this article:
5A has some of the top talents in the state playing for the big schools. Loaded with young talent as well this year the class should show us some high-scoring basketball. when breaking down 5A I definitely noticed that this class is full of shooters. 5A has some of the most balanced players in my opinion. Young stars look to make some wave’s this year and get ranked on scout’s radar. Here are the top three teams I like to win out and make memories. Johnston at 20-0 is my heavy favorite this year. Southeast Polk 20-0 is tough. My sleeper in the tourney is Des Moines Roosevelt at 17-2. Someone might go undefeated this season and win out!
Johnston is super balanced and strong all around. Scoring 70 points a game this season they all share the ball well and make the right play. Sensational sophomore Aaliyah Riley Aaliyah Riley 5'7" | PG Johnston | 2024 State IA is a handful already on the court and is one of the best young talents in our state. Mixed her in with another super soph Aili Tanke Aili Tanke 6'0" | SG Johnston | 2024 State IA the dragons will be a fun group to watch for years to come. Anna Gossling Anna Gossling 5'5" | SG Johnston | 2022 State IA and Jada Gyamfi Jada Gyamfi 6'1" | PF Johnston | 2022 State #76 Nation IA ’s senior leadership should help them get thru tough games if anyone comes close to shooting such a high field goal percentage. The defense is lockdown and high pressure I’m excited to watch them play.
Des Moines Roosevelt roughriders are my sleeper team. scoring 62 points a game this season. Only giving up 33 shows they can control games. Arianna Jackson Arianna Jackson 5'9" | PG Roosevelt | 2023 State IA is a junior who is trouble on the court. Roosevelt has some strong veteran leadership in Amaya Davison Amaya Davison 5'5" | PG Des Moines Roosevelt | 2022 State IA , and Trinity Cheaton as well. Their high pressure defense gets them a lot of steals per game and they shot a very high percentage which shows they are taking good shots. Junior Ke’Ayla Madison Ke’Ayla Madison 5'5" | PG Roosevelt | 2023 State IA is the x-factor to me and if the riders can stay hot they have a good chance at winning.
This Concludes my class breakdown of the playoffs. Look for more from me as state plays out. Good luck to all the ballers and coach’s. Stay healthy and enjoy the ride. Follow me on Twitter or Instagram at CoachRiddle32
