They have accomplished things that you usually only see upperclassman accomplish throughout this season, like having 2 nationally ranked players, the Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year, and the state tournament MVP to name a few. Let’s take a look at the top wings in the class of 2025.
ZaKiyah Johnson ZaKiyah Johnson 6'0" | SF Sacred Heart | 2025 State KY | Sacred Heart
I don’t know if there has ever been a freshman in this state that has been able to do what Johnson did this year, and there’s been a ton of talented freshmen so that’s saying a lot. For starters, she scored nearly 700 points and grabbed almost 300 rebounds in her freshman campaign. She finished the season as a top 50 scorer and a top 50 free throw shooter across the state. She won Kentucky’s Gatorade Player of the Year, an award that hasn’t been given to an underclassman in Kentucky since Erin Boley won it her sophomore year (2013-14). Since 2000, Boley and Johnson are the only 2 underclassman to receive that award. She also was named the MVP of the state tournament where she led her team to Sacred Heart’s 6th state title. Johnson can do it all at a level so far beyond a freshman. She can score at all 3 levels and despite teams focusing on shutting her down, she consistently finds ways to put the ball in the basket. She can play any position on the floor on both ends. She could make zero improvements to her game and she would still be able to play at the highest level in college so Johnson’s future is certainly bright.
Halle Collins Halle Collins 5'11" | SF Knox Central | 2025 State KY | Knox Central
Collins is another high level player. She’s a double-double machine with a very high basketball IQ. She’s got the strength and work ethic that one needs to play at the next level and she’s still got 3 more high school seasons to play. She’s already surpassed the 1,000 point and 500 rebound marks, and she also finished this season as a top 35 scorer, top 10 free throw shooter, and finished with one of the top 50 field goal percentages in Kentucky. She’s a very versatile player and she can score in just about any way you can think of. She’s got a good shot, she’s a fantastic finisher, she’s got great post moves, she cuts hard, she drives hard, she makes some impressive passes, and she’s just a solid, complete player overall. It’s normal to see Collins not only finish a game with a double-double in points and rebounds, but also with multiple steals and assists.
Khania Jones Khania Jones 5'9" | SF George Rogers Clark | 2025 State KY | Central Hardin
Jones is a phenomenal defender. She moves her feet so well and she is excellent at reading the passing lanes. She goes after the ball any chance she gets, but she’s also smart about when to go after it. She plays great help defense and can really defend any position on the floor. She’s got great timing on her blocks and she’s very good about not swinging her arms down. I don’t know what her averages were as far as steals and blocks this season, but those numbers had to be pretty high. She’s also a really good rebounder. She’s got fantastic speed and athleticism. As Jones continues to develop her left hand and becomes more consistent, she is certainly a player to watch going into next season. With Central Hardin graduating their top 3 scorers, I could easily see Jones average a double-double next year.
Alivia Morris Alivia Morris 5'8" | SF Nelson County | 2025 State KY | Nelson County
You can find Morris in just about every statistical category after each game. She does a little bit of everything. She’s got great size and strength. She’s got great hands around the basket. She finishes well with contact and can hang in the air to get a better look. Typically, you would not expect a freshman to be as strong with the ball as Morris is, but she’s both strong and consistent around the rim. She also makes some really good cuts and can finish on the move. I was impressed by her passes as well. She holds off her defender in the post and she crashes the boards hard. Morris reads the passing lanes and is an excellent shot blocker. She was a major part of Nelson County’s post-season run where they made it to the regional championship and barely fell short of a trip to Rupp.
