Class 3A State Tournament: Friday Standouts
The IHSA State Tournament continued Friday morning at Redbird Arena on the campus of Illinois State University. The 3A semifinals began in the morning with the winners advancing to the championship game Saturday evening at 7pm and the losers to play in the 3rd place game later Friday night. The day picked up where Thursday left off as it was full of exciting fans, games, and players to set the tournament up for championship Saturday. Here are the 3A standouts on Friday:
Jordan Wood Jordan Wood 6'4" | PF Carmel Catholic | 2023 State #15 Nation IL – Carmel – 2023 – 6’5 F
The second team all-stater only played half of the game due to foul trouble but still dominated the paint in the time she had. The MSU commit has great size and length that makes it tough for opposing teams to match up with. Jordan finished the game with 10 points. She is someone who is an elite prospect with a ton of upside to her game as this is a name we’ll be hearing more of in the future.
Grace Sullivan Grace Sullivan 6'3" | C Carmel Catholic | 2022 State IL -Carmel -2022 – 6’4 C
Grace dominated the paint scoring a game high 18 points while ripping down 9 boards as well. The Bucknell commit has a beautiful sky hook in the paint that makes it nearly impossible for defenders of any size to stop. The all-state honorable mention recipient uses her length and athleticism to be an elite shot blocker, too.
Ashley Schlabowske Ashley Schlabowske 5'8" | PG Carmel Catholic | 2024 State IL – Carmel -2024 – 5’6 G
The young guard is a quick and athletic player who can move the ball up the floor in a hurry. Ashley is a tough defender who causes havoc on the defensive end of the ball. She was able to start a lot of Carmel’s offense today off of defense and steals. Schlabowske finished the day with 8 points, 3 steals, and 3 assist.
Olivia Durbin – Civic Memorial -2023 – 5’8 F
The honorable mention all-stater didn’t have the greatest day shooting but she was the player that hit a shot for Civic Memorial when they needed a big bucket. Olivia once again showed off her deep range knocking down 5 deep ones on the day from well behind the 3-point line. She has no hesitation to pull up from anywhere on the floor with her range.
Meredith Brueckner – Civic Memorial – 2025 – 5’7 F
The talented freshman is a huge spark plug off the bench for her team. Meredith is well built with great shot and form. She doesn’t back down to any defender and will take it to the rack under pressure. Brueckner is an above average defender in the post as well. Meredith has a ton of upside in her game and is someone to look out for in the future.
Grace Carstensen Grace Carstensen 5'11" | SG Nazareth Academy | 2023 State IL – Nazareth – 2023 – 6′ G
Gracie had one of the most impressive shooting performances I have seen knocking down 6 of 10 from deep. She, at one point, went on a 15-0 run by herself making 5 consecutive 3’s in 5 consecutive possessions to give her team the lead and never looked back to advance to the championship. The junior showed off what kind of deep range she has by pulling up from WNBA range finding the bottom of the net every time. The honorable mention all-stater ended with a game high 18 points.
Danielle Scully – Nazareth -2024 – 6’1 G F
Danielle has a strong body who went to work down low for Nazareth. She has next level mobility and moves in the paint. Ashley moves well to get open and scores at a high percentage on the block. Danielle was voted to the 3rd team all-state team.
Katie Krupa Katie Krupa 6'2" | SF Morton | 2022 State IL – Morton – 2022 – 6’1 F
The Harvard commit is super smooth with great size and length. She uses that size to her advantage to dominate down low. She has a great skill set in the paint but also has the ability to knock down the open shot from anywhere on the floor. Katie has a very good shot from the elbow that she loves to take. The leading vote getter for the all-state team showed exactly why she earned that honor Friday by scoring 36 points in her two games helping her team bring home the third place trophy.
Tatym Lamprecht Tatym Lamprecht 5'7" | PG Morton | 2023 State IL – Morton – 2024 – 5’8 G
Tatym is a three level scorer getting it done from anywhere on floor. The junior has great rotation on her shot with some serious range. She was able to shoot the ball at a high percentage from deep in both her games at a combined 5-8 helping her to score 20 points today, 17 of those in her second game. Tatym also has the ability to take defenders off the dribble when the shot isn’t open. She doesn’t steer away from contact with the ability to finish strong under contact and finish the play at the line.
