Continue ReadingI love interacting with people so Kobe Johnson’s brother asked me if I was a scout and I said yes. He said “well you need you to make sure my sister gets a scholarship” and I told him “her ability will get her a scholarship, I’m only the messenger”. I left and came back and evidently he went through my notes and asked me “what is that scribble scrabble in your tablet, nobody can understand that” and I cracked up because he’s looking out for his sister like I looked out for TEXAS kids when the national media was not which is why I hashtag #thereisnome yet in this age of nonsense, I will always keep it real and here are some of the future Top 100 + players
2026
Kobe Johnson (IJU 14)
Johnson gave me an even better glimpse of what’s coming when she enters North Shore next season because she can do, well almost anything on both ends. The thing I enjoy even more is that she goes hard, no matter what the score is and that’s huge because not only do I love that, this is for her brother, college coaches love it too and they give scholarships. She’s strong, finishes after contact, this includes putbacks but watching her attack off the dribble and elevate over the defender is very nice yet she also elevates on her jumper and that is going to create some problems
2027
Brooklyn Roberson (League City Sharks)
Roberson does what I love to see and that’s play the passing lane yet she also understands how to set the defender up by creating her shot to either attack, she finishes after contact, or drop the jumper with a hand in her face yet her “poise” under pressure will add even more to impressive game
Tristen Golden (League City Sharks)
Golden is definitely a Girl you want to guard tightly, see how I did that, man I loved that show yet watching her progression over a short time has me thinking “the game starts at the 1” and she already gets it yet she also gives it to the right person at the right time, court vision is solid, plus she can score off the dribble or with the jumper
Seleste Massey (Lady Drive Nation Massey)
Massey is “long and athletic” that is the base I use for a number of reasons yet what you add to make it even more next-level attractive so not only is her first step explosive and she finishes with good body control after contact yet she does so many things right now that are just ahead of her years, like the touch pass which was huge, but she can drop the mid to long-range and her court vision is solid as well
Sydney Durrah (Lady Drive Nation Massey)
Durrah rhymes with hoorah, wait I tweeted that yet it still rhymes and she still left a lasting impression because of her handling of the ball under pressure, seeing the floor, and understanding how to control the tempo. Acrobatic finishes off the dribble are always nice, after contact and she plays you know what, the passing lane
Diara Gibbs (TNBA)
Gibbs may not be related to that guy that used to be on NCIS yet she solved several mysteries when she faced the double team. Her ability to zig-zag through traffic going full speed just had me write SWB, my acronym for speed with the ball but she also can change direction without breaking stride ad when you add the pull-up jumper…
Mackenzie Teuton (Just Play 13U)
Teuton taunts the defender as she handles the ball effortlessly to get by them yet her comprehension of the game coupled with her staying under control no matter what has her as one of the 1’s of the future in the area yet she can drop the 3, score off the dribble or set teammates up for easy baskets
2028
Benita Byrd (Just Play)
Byrd’s wings will not be clipped as there is no telling how high she will fly. Her first step is devastating, I guess that’s the right word yet she is long, athletic, and acrobatic, so are her finishes yet she joins a select few I have actually witnessed “change hands in mid-air” fluidly and finish and trust me “she ain’t finished”
Jaelynn Sowells (TNBA)
Sowells is one of those players I use “her ceiling has no roof” as she went completely off on day 2 after showing signs on opening day but she’s long, athletic, and 6’2, that in itself make her “the draw” when certified events come around so I’m certifying her as a definite #D1Lock for a number of reasons other than aforementioned. She does things instinctively, she’s constantly moving, she reacts well on defense and goes after the ball off the rim yet she also found ways to score around the basket, hands, and footwork are on their way, so is that facing the basket and when everything comes together, liars will be coming from everywhere talking about what they can do yet it’s cemented in stone what she will do
