In all honesty, there wasn’t much separating the two and I probably could’ve just made a 10-person first team, but the graphics department wouldn’t have been able to handle a graphic that big. So, here we are. Five more players who had a tremendous weekend in Chicago during Prep Girls Hoops’ The Exclusive.
Parker Stevenson | 5-6 CG | Oklahoma Swift / Bethel (OK) | 2023 | @OkBaller352 | Hudl
The Twitter handle suits her. As I said in several tweets this weekend, Parker Stevenson is a flat-out baller. An all-state player, Stevenson can score it in myriad ways. She is a really good shooter with a quick release. Her athleticism is almost unmatched on any court that she is on. She is fast and quick and can jump out of the gym. Parker works her butt off on both ends and is unafraid to do the little things, like taking charges, that help a team win. She shows great vision and patience with the ball in her hands and her passes are crisp and timely. I’m not sure she did any wrong this weekend in Chicago. She was a standout in every sense of the word.
Maebry Shields | 5-7 CG | Oklahoma Swift / Perry (OK) | 2023 | @maebryanne | Hudl
First and foremost, Maebry is a shooter. Don’t believe me? Take a look at her Hudl link. Go ahead, I’ll wait. Look at some of the titles of the videos. “5 three-pointers…,” “7 three-pointers…,” etc. She really is a tremendous three-point shooter and it all starts with her ridiculous leg strength. I mean her legs look stronger than mine did when I was in the Army and ruck marching 10 miles, three times a week. She gets great lift and extension when shooting and it is really a thing of beauty. Additionally, her mid-range jumper is potentially the best on the team. She can fill it up given any amount of space. Add in the fact that she – just like the rest of her squad – works her butt off on defense and you have all the makings of a big-time college prospect. Coaches, you need to take a look.
Tamaiya Wesley | 5-6 CG | Team Stay Ready / Stephenville (TX) | 2024 | Coach: @CoachShanice
Speaking of shooters, Tamaiya has been one of my top performers before because of her three-point shooting, and here she is again. From a high school that is known for producing quarterbacks with big arms comes a guard who can also make it rain from long distance. Wesley is a fiery player who is encouraging with her teammates and respectful to opponents. She has fully bought into Coach Ready’s “94 Feet of Heat” defense and forced almost innumerable turnovers over the course of the weekend while managing to avoid foul trouble. Wesley is a high motor player who never relents – much like her entire team – and she is a complete pleasure to watch play the game of basketball. Perhaps by the time she is done, Stephenville will be known for girls’ basketball instead!
Jacy Rohr | 5-5 PG | P.L.U.T.O Prospects / Liberty (CO) | 2023 | @RohrJacy | Hudl
Before I had even seen Rohr play, I had another scout reach out and tell me to keep an eye out for this kid because she can flat-out shoot it. Well, he wasn’t lying. But, he kind of “buried the lead,” as we journalists like to say. Jacy isn’t just a shooter. She can pretty much do it all and despite being 5’5″, she is completely unafraid to drive the lane and score it. More often than not she picks up the foul and, as you always should, she makes her free throws. She is a hard worker who goes all game long. She is tough and physical and basically doesn’t let anyone push her around. She is a great on-ball defender with a high basketball IQ and her P.L.U.T.O squad definitely would not be as good as they are without her on the floor.
Mistidawn Roybal | 5-11 F | New Mexico D1 / Robertson (NM) | @misti_roybal
The first thing that jumps out about Roybal is her size. She is tall and long and very strong. She doesn’t get pushed around. She is involved in every play for her New Mexico D1 squad and there wasn’t a loose ball scrap or contested rebound that she wasn’t part of in some way. She has that “wants it” factor that you just can’t teach. Add in the fact that after a tough loss in a very physical contest, she still stood around chatting with an opponent about the game and where they were from in a very classy show of respect. Misti scores from all three levels, and can really stretch the floor with her size and ability to move with and without the ball. She makes it hard on less mobile bigs that are tasked with guarding her. She is a talkative player whose teammates seem to rally around her. Coaches, you owe it to yourselves to check out this high character and very high talent athlete.
