Madison Thomas | 5-6 CG | Colorado Sparks / Erie | 2022 | @madison_nthomas
There are a lot of coaches out there who have hit me up for a 2022 Point Guard. Well, here’s a name to have on your radar. Madison is the definition of a point guard. Good handles. Good communicator. Can score when needed. She showed a really good step-back jumper that created a good amount of space for her quick release. She drained a few big threes for her squad on Saturday. Thomas moves quickly laterally and does a good job of cutting off the angles from her driving opponent. If you’re still in need of a ’22 PG, this could be the one for you, coaches! Take a look!
Rian Martinez | 6-1 F | New Mexico D1 / Yuma Catholic | 2023 | @D1NewMexico
Speaking of coaches, if there’s one thing I get hit up about more than a point guard, it’s probably a four that can stretch the floor. Well, look no further. Martinez is tall and long and showed the ability to not only handle the ball but to step out and hit the three and midrange shots. She is bouncy and almost unblockable with her length and ability to rise up above her opponents. Speaking of rising up, she gets a lot of rebounds and is not afraid to get inside and bang. Rian has everything a coach who needs a “Stretch-4” is looking for and you are going to want to catch a New Mexico D1 game before the PGH Circuit is over!
Juliana Matlock | 5-11 F | Oklahoma Swift / Will Rogers | 2023 | @Jewels_Matlock
Speaking of “Stretch-4’s,” Juliana has worked over the last few years to really improve her range and can definitely now be considered one. She hit several big-time shots from long range this weekend despite clearly playing through some pain. Having seen her in the past, I know Juliana is a tough, physical player, so it is no surprise to see her playing a weekend tournament with an injury and still giving her team some really big minutes. She is grabbing a lot of rebounds still and even more important than that, she is a heady player who is a coach on the floor. She knows the game and the coach’s intentions and makes sure that everyone else does also.
Jacy Rohr | 5-5 PG | P.L.U.T.O Prospects / Liberty | 2023 | @RohrJacy
Jacy was everywhere in the P.L.U.T.O games that I saw yesterday. She is a little sparkplug for her squad and works incessantly to get free for her beautiful three-point shot — which she hit A LOT of on Saturday. If you back up and give her a little space after seeing her shoot in your face a few times, she’ll begin to use her quick first step to blow by you and head to the rim. Once inside, she showed absolutely no fear amid a plethora of different finishes down low to get the “hoop and the harm.” Of course, to top it all off, Rohr made her free throws, as you always should.
Danae’ Crosby | 5-6 PG | Team Stay Ready / Braswell | 2024 | Hudl
Honestly, I wanted to pick the whole Team Stay Ready as my top performers for Saturday, but that wouldn’t be fair to everyone else, I guess. As a team, the dedication to defense is incredible and the love they have for one another and the encouragement for their teammates is almost unmatched in the region. Danae’ is a great ambassador for what it is that Team Stay Ready stands for. She is a fiery player who plays incredible on-ball defense. She absolutely does not stop working all game long and comes up with just an inordinate amount of turnovers from her opponent. After the turnover, she is quick down the court and finishes strong, often doing a really good job of twisting her body into the trailing opponent and picking up the “and 1.”
