I watched a handful of games that came down to the final seconds, and FT’s were the difference. The PGH Triumph Region Kickoff was a huge success and a lot of gems were uncovered this weekend from classes 2022-2028. Here were some players I saw today that stood out:
Xaniya Jackson Xaniya Jackson 6'1" | PF Andrew Jackson | 2023 State FL | Lady OTOD 2023 Pink | 2023
In the first game of the day, Xaniya was the most impressive player on the floor even though her team lost. She’s a true post at 6′ with a strong fame to bully people in the post. Xaniya had to do a lot for her team which wasn’t a problem as she can handle the ball, moves well, and will dive on the floor for a loose ball. Inside, her footwork was really clean and she had multiple two-handed blocks in the paint.
Sha’nya Lake Sha’nya Lake 5'2" Jenkins County | 2024 GA | Lady Grinders 2023 | 2024
Lady Grinders came from Georgia with two really nice PG’s that played up a grade level all weekend. One of them was Sha’nya who did a great job of setting up the offense and setting the pace. She’s a lethal shooter, but she can also distribute it and get her teammates involved.
Kennedy Armistead | Lady Grinders 2023 | 2024
Kennedy was the other PG who put on a shooting display on Sunday. She hit it from deep but also got to the basket and hit some tough floaters over taller defenders. The undersized guard has good handles with her dribble being so low to the ground.
Dayna James | Team Passion 2024 | 2024
Dayna was the most aggressive rebounder I saw all day. She crashed the boards on both ends and probably had 10 rebounds on the offensive end alone. Her ability to finish strong at the rim was nice, and she played hard the entire day with no plays off.
Kamie Ellis | Florida Lady Aces 2024 | 2026
Kyndall AKA Kamie was the best player I watched from the class of 2026. She played up two grade levels and was still a top performer. She’s got good height/length for her age, and she can do a little bit of everything. Kamie showed off some crafty finishes, hit some clutch FT’s, and scored it from everywhere on the floor.
Zoe O’Leary | Florida Lady Aces 2024 | 2025
The Venice twins came to play this weekend as a couple more young players on this FLA ’24 squad. Zoe is more of the bruiser down low. She has good length and she uses her body to get position in the post. Her touch down low and ability to finish makes her a really tough Freshman.
Tessa O’Leary | Florida Lady Aces 2024 | 2025
The other half of the Venice twins is Tessa. She’s more of a shooter who has similar length to her sister. Tessa played hard and made some really big plays in tight games.
Amaya Richardson | Lady Flames Basketball 2023 | 2025
Amaya played up two grade levels and did not look out of place. She can score from all over with a tough mid-range game and some clean footwork inside. She is strong and can finish against bigger players down low.
Maggie Lauber Maggie Lauber 5'6" | SG Durant | 2023 State FL | Nona Basketball Academy 2023 | 2023
Maggie hit some clutch FT’s to finish Nona’s undefeated weekend with their 2023 team. She is a really smooth facilitator who can score at all three levels or spread the wealth to her team. Maggie will be a major stock riser in her last summer of travel ball.
Mia Lake | Ocala Impact 2024 | 2024
Mia made some of her biggest plays at the FT line in crunch time to seal a couple of wins. In the last game of the day, she assisted on the game-winning bucket with the clock winding down. I liked her ability to get to the basket with the dribble and make the right decision. She can also shoot it from the outside.
Quin’nya De Sanders | Team All In 2023 | 2026
I did not realize Quin’nya was a middle school player until I just looked at their roster. She played up 3 levels and was easily one of the best on her squad. I was impressed her ability to get to the rim and dish it to her teammates for an easy bucket. Quin’nya showed a lot of athleticism and body control, and she was not afraid to let it fly from deep.
