We released an updated rankings for the class of 2024 this week. Today we look at the 2024 stock risers inside the top 20!
Kayla Nelms Kayla Nelms 6'1" | PF Miami Country Day | 2024 State FL (Miami Country Day / Miami Suns Team Fowles 17U EYBL) – 6’1 Forward
New Ranking: 2
Previous Ranking: 5
Nelms is an intriguing prospect as she is 6’1, can play inside and out, is extremely skilled and consistently productive on the offensive end. She moves up 3 spots to the # 2 overall spot in the class of 2024 after a stellar Sophomore campaign for Miami Country Day and a very productive start to the 2022 travel season for the Miami Suns. Nelms shoots a high percentage from the field both at the rim and from 3, she is an effective rebounder on the offensive and defensive glass, has a high IQ and is extremely skilled. What level of a prospect she is at the collegiate level is still yet to be determined, as she is a bit undersized but is a skilled modern day forward who is extremely productive and helps her team win a lot of games!
Jada Eads Jada Eads 5'6" | PG Lake Highland Prep | 2024 State FL (Wekiva / Central Florida Elite 17U 3SSB) – 5’6 Guard
New Ranking: 4
Previous Ranking: 9
Eads bumps up 5 spots to # 4 overall in the 2024 class after putting Wekiva on her back, consistently putting her elite athleticism, deep 3-point range, and efficient scoring ability on display night in and night out. Every time I have seen Eads play, she has scored 20+ points, got it done in a variety of ways, and made my jaw drop a minimum of 2 times per game. She is small, athletic, explosive, and fun to watch!
Eris Lester Eris Lester 5'10" | SF Montverde Academy | 2024 State FL (Orange Park / Miami Suns Team Fowles 17U EYBL) – 5’10 Wing
New Ranking: 9
Previous Ranking: 18
Lester moves up into the top 10 and was a consensus favorite of a majority of the Prep Hoops staff that saw her play this high school season for Orange Park or this spring with Miami Suns. The 5’10 wing is versatile, skilled, and has a ton of potential. She is young and still a bit raw but she might have the biggest upside of anyone in the class of 2024 due to her high level basketball IQ, long wingspan and frame, excellent height and athleticism, and impressive offensive skill.
Jade Leon Jade Leon 5'11" | CG Palmer Trinity | 2024 State FL (Palmer Trinity / Team Knight 16U 3SSB) – 5’10 Guard
New Ranking: 17
Previous Ranking: 29
It was hard to talk about Leon, without talking about Emily Montes Emily Montes 5'9" | CG Palmer Trinity | 2023 State FL this season, as they have the 1-2 punch that makes Palmer Trinity go! At one point Montes will graduate and everything will be on the shoulder of Leon at Palmer Trinity for her final season but up to this point it has been a consistent tandem attack by the duo. As a Sophomore, Leon displayed the ability to score at a high level, create off the dribble in transition, rebound the ball from the perimeter and be a dependable and high percentage 3-point shooter. At 5’10, Leon was named 2nd Team All Miami-Dade County and averaged 13.7 points and seven boards and 3.3 steals per game. She moves up 12 spots to # 17 overall in the class of 2024.
Carmen Richardson Carmen Richardson 5'8" | CG Colonial | 2024 State FL (Colonial / Central Florida Elite 16U 3SSB) – 5’8 Guard
New Ranking: 20
Previous Ranking: 37
Richardson was another one that was a fan favorite of a majority of the staff, with some pushing for her to jump into the top 10 – 15. She moves up 17 spots to # 20 overall after helping lead Colonial to one of their best seasons in school history, making it all way to Lakeland for the 7A Final Four. On a talented and loaded deep Colonial roster, Richardson was the teams leading scorer and rebounder at 14.3 points and 5.6 rebounds. She has been covered quite a bit by the Prep Hoops staff, getting the attention of writers and evaluators alike for her excellent shooting ability, activity level on both ends of the floor, and consistent energy and effort.
